Gravel + Shmutz on roads = 2x flats on bikes

Hi there,

I am sharing this with the club in hopes that if we all take a bit of time to complete this survey we can make a difference. I have called in a couple of times (mostly concerning the stretch along Victoria Road and the one across York Road) only to be assured that it will be taken care of. York Road only increasingly gets worse. Anyhow, Sage discovered that the following survey is occurring on September 7th. Please take the time to complete…

Tour de France Velogames competition!

A huge thanks to Speed River Bicycle for providing the prizes again this year! Here is your podium:

1st – Ben S (Velocis helmet + shop tee)

2nd – Mike D (Flare R rear light + shop tee)

3rd – Aaron P ($50 gift card + shop tee)

I honestly hope I’ve done the maths right, feel free to email me if you think there’s a problem. Will be in touch with the winners for prizing. Thanks to all of the club members who participated!

If you’re not familiar, every year we do an online competition for the TdF via Velogames, with podium prizing from Speed River Bicycle. Head over to Velogames.com, create your “team” for the Tour, and join the official SRCC league, using code 831390811 (make sure to ‘Confirm’, it’s a weird website). Only registered club members will be considered for prizes. A big thanks to Tim and the team at SRB for the support! Best of luck to all! Use this LINK to keep track of points.

A note on ride descriptions

The season is in full swing now, and we’d like to remind club members to please adhere to the description and the “spirit” of each ride. Wednesdays are meant to be social, steady rides, without surges or attacks. If you feel the need to go faster, please visit another night’s option; same goes for Tuesday B and Thursday B rides. We aim to keep the club enjoyable to all of the participating members, and would kindly ask that experienced riders focus on helping others, and working to keep the group riding as one. And a big thanks to those many members that already do this!

September “try-a-ride” on the 5th

The OCA allows non-members to participate in one club activity per year, as a chance to try out a club and group riding. We’re holding a ‘try-a-ride’ session on September 5th, departing the library at 6:00pm (please be early), and possibly joining up with the regular club ride. If you’ve always wondered what a club ride is like, then this is your chance! Details:

Please make sure that you read the appropriate ride description, and meet the fitness and safety standards for riding. Feel free to email us with any questions!

Cheers and see you at the Wooly!

Club kit pre-order closed

There will still be a large inventory of items for sale when we receive the pre-ordered kit. There has been a complete redesign for 2018 providing a new look for the season ahead. This change comes with a new supplier Biemme Sportswear so be sure to consult the sizing chart or drop by Speed River Bicycle to try on the fit kit. Small/Medium/Large club and race cut men’s jerseys are available to try on now and additional sizes are on their way. Be aware that the fit sizing is not the same as last year!

There is a full selection available to order in both men’s and women’s sizes. Long and short sleeve jerseys, vests, bib shorts, arm/leg/knee warmers and even socks!

Indoor Training Sessions at the Bike Shed

The SRCC is holding indoor trainer sessions for 2018 at the Bike Shed in Arkell, an amazing indoor studio. We’ll run sessions starting at 7pm on Tuesdays, between January 9th and February 27th, inclusive. Since there is limited room, we’ve made a sign-up page below, which will “go live” 48 hours before the next session. There are 8 stations with a trainer & TV (bring your own towels, water, etc.) and some ‘overflow’ spots as well, where you’ll need to bring your own trainer.

SIGN-UP HERE

There will be a fee of $10 each per session, the club is helping to subsidize the sessions. Please only sign up if you can make it out! Direct all questions here: gabhan@guelphcyclingclub.ca

We hope to see you out there in the New Year!

AGM Dec. 4th at 7pm

We’re holding our Annual General Meeting this year on December 4th (7pm) in the downstairs meeting room of Shakespeare’s. We’ll have a review of the year, financial summary, and will have elections to the various board positions. Everyone welcome to attend and have their input on the year ahead!

2017 Club Social

We’re happy to announce that our 2017 SRCC Year-End Social will take place at NV Kitchen+Bar, 16 Wyndham Street N, at 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 14th.

Club Award Winners will be announced (Vote Here), and there will be lots of snacks to enjoy, as well as beverages available to purchase at the bar.

If you’d like to join, please let us know by sending an email to RSVP@guelphcyclingclub.ca by Wednesday, November 8th.

Get well soon Andy!

Andy crashed and broke his femur riding today, and is having surgery on Monday. The pavement will probably be repaired on Tuesday 😉 All the best man, heal up! Send him positive vibes if you get a chance.
