Overview of Speeds

*The Women Only Ride is a new category this year and the women leading it will establish the speed averages as the year progresses.

If you have concerns about speed categories and your abilities, come out on Tuesday evening to the TAM Ride and you can try any speed*. You will figure it out pretty quick by moving up or down in the groups. Also speak with any of our Ride Leaders, they will be glad to help.
*Please note, however that we do require new members to attend a Learn-to-Group Ride training session before joining a regular ride, unless they can demonstrate to a Ride Leader that they already have sufficient group riding skills.

Tuesday All Members Ride

*R2+ Picante is a new speed group this year in the TAM Ride as R2 was very popular last year. The speed average for R2+ is the same as R2, but the difference is that things might get ‘spicy’ at times. If you’re wanting to up your game and you’re not quite ready for R1, then R2+ is the place for you. If you are not able to pull at the front in R2+, you must drop down to the next lower speed group, R2. This is true of any speed group on the TAM Ride – they are all ‘drop’ rides except R6.

Wednesday Evening

This is a new ride offering this year and the women running this ride will establish the speed averages as the year progresses. The number of riders showing up and their abilities will determine the number of speed groups. To start, the plan is to run this ride the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month. However, popularity may see more dates added. There are some truly awesome women helping out with this ride!
Speeds will be the same as the weekend Gravel Ride but the routes will be shorter to get everyone home in time for sunset. The number of riders showing up and their abilities will determine the number of speed groups. This ride will run the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Thursday Evening

These are the top three speed groups in the club. R1 & R2 are ‘drop’ groups. There is no R2+ on Thursday.
R4 & R5 are ‘drop’ groups. The Intermediate group have their own Ride Leader and may not be riding the same route as the Advanced Ride.

Sunday Morning

The Long road ride is at a moderate to advanced speed for riders who want a longer ride with a higher level of effort. The Medium ride is a shorter distance at a moderate speed for riders who need to be home by lunch. Speed averages for each group are a blend of two regular weekly speed groups because of the longer distances.
The G1 gravel ride is aimed at riders looking to build endurance at a moderate speed, it is a ‘drop’ ride. G2 is for riders with club entry level ability or riders wanting a more relaxed speed. G1 & G2 ride the same route.
