200K & 160K | July 14th

THIS IS A VERY LONG DISTANCE RIDE. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING IN DETAIL

We will be touring the hills and valleys of Wellington, Dufferin, Simcoe. Lunch and Coffee stops are available on route with Fixed Gear Brewing at the finish line (where we will meet up with all the other Super Sunday riders).

This will be the second of two 200km rides that will act as qualifiers for the GCC 300km ride on July 21.

We’ll be starting at The Boathouse, so there will NOT be a pre-ride bag drop. The group will leave at 6AM sharp, so it is recommended you arrive by 5:45am to get your gear in order. Bring money for coffee and lunch stops, bonking on this ride will not be a fun time. Tail lights are mandatory to be running until 7am, but really you should run them the whole time.

160km route is available for those who do not wish to complete the 200km. Speed groups for this distance will be based on interest level.

Food is paramount when riding distances like this. Do not skip out on an opportunity to eat at one of the stops, you will have a much nicer time if you are well fueled. Stops include Grand Valley, Mono, Inglewood, Belfountain (for 200km) and Grandvalley, Orangeville, Belfountain (for 160km)

Please review the course and prepare accordingly. There are a few busy roads that we will be on for short periods (ride single file). There will also be some mild gravel sections to avoid the busiest roads.

  • Most GCC riders have never taken on a ride longer than 160km before. Distances like this require more prep work than shorter distance rides. Considering this, we have some mandatory gear that everyone must bring. We might prevent you from riding if you do not have the following at the start.
    • Flat Kits
    • Pump
    • Multi Tool
    • 2 Bottles
    • Cell Phone
    • Snacks and Electrolytes
    • Front and Rear Lights
    • Money for refuel stops

Recommended Gear

  • Some nice to haves that may make your experience more enjoyable
    • Sunscreen
    • Lip Chap (8+ hours on the bike can lead to extra dryness)
    • Chamois Cream
    • Gloves
    • Rain Gear

NOTE WELL: There will NOT be a sag wagon (no driver to rescue you). You are responsible for getting yourself to and from the start & finish.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

All rides need a minimum of 3 members signed up in order to officially run. If a ride has the required number of riders, but no Group Captain riding with them, that group ride will be considered cancelled. The group can decide among themselves to hold an ‘unofficial’ ride and follow the route. All group riders take it upon themselves to know the route and are responsible for their own safety.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Ride groups will be:

NameDistanceAverage Moving Speed
Blast (R1,R2)207km30ish kph
Fast (R3,R4)207km/163 km26-27 kph
Relaxed (R5,R6)207km/163 km<26 kph

It is highly recommended that you have at least one 100km+ ride completed at one of the above speeds in 2024 prior to participating. Whatever group you choose to ride in, you will likely be working hard by the end.

GRAVEL

The Gravel routes are designed to explore some of the best gravel south of Guelph, keeping close to the city but not crossing over the 401. Coffee stop (and bike parts!) at Flow State at 40 km – reservations have been made for 10:00am. The only difference between the short and long loops is the trip down Concession 11 (which may look boring but it is actually a very nice rolling bit of gravel road) – pick your distance below!

Sunday Road Tours | July 7 at 8AM

Hopefully the weather holds for this weekend. For anyone sad about the cancelled Belfountain area ride last weekend, you’re in luck. This is a slightly modified option for that area. All groups will start from Flow State at 8am and follow the same route towards Glen Williams. You will absolutely need to download the route as it meanders through a bit of pedestrian path/park area once you enter G-Town. The Tours can make a re-fuel stop there (Kit’s or Main Street Market – both nice but the Market could be quicker to get in and out and also has great outdoor space). The Grand Tour won’t stop in G-Williams as we will continue on for a stop in Belfountain at the spruced up General Store. NOTE: Starting from Arkell at Flow State. Bring money for a coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea.
The Tours are 88k from Arkell to Arkell
The Grand Tour is 120k from Arkell and ending in downtown Guelph area.

**CANCELED** Sunday Road Tours | June 30 08:00

I guess in between the long weekend, kids home from school, and a couple groups riding in far flung locations, our sign-ups are lacking. Enjoy the long weekend in your own ways, although preferably still on a bike 😉

School’s out for summer! School’s out for ever!! Err- okay maybe not, Alice, but living in the moment for a couple hours on a summer morning can temporarily make it feel like forever. I’m shamelessly reposting routes from a few weeks back that got cancelled due to weather. Also, I don’t head that direction very often so there’s some self-interest here (thanks Robert M 🙏).

“This week the Grand Tour will head out to The Forks of the Credit, with a coffee stop in Belfountain. The Tours will stop for a coffee at Kit’s Little Kitchen on Main Street in Glen Williams, and will turn back towards Guelph after the sweet gravel climb on 10th Line beside Terra Cotta. Bring money for the coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea.”

**Cancelled** Sunday Gravel Ride | June 30 8:00AM

Happy Canada Day long weekend! Hope at least a few club members opted for a weekend in town and are up for a long gravel ride covering some of my favorite roads! Those of you who did the BGR will be familiar with some of these roads, as we head towards Hillsburgh, then up and over to Belwood before returning to Guelph via the Elora Cataract Trail. There will be the possibility to stop for refreshments in Hillsburgh (KM 43) and Belwood (KM 70). Option to cut out the climb on 27 by hopping on the ECT and/or slightly shorten the route by cutting out final meandering part through town.

Cancelled: Sunday Tour de Guelph Road Ride | June 23th 7:30AM

Ride Cancelled due to thunderstorm risk

We are supporting the Tour de Guelph’s Hospital Fundraiser by signing up, paying our money (fund raise and donate more if you can) and riding our bikes. There will be no other club rides this day.

The TdG has several routes to choose from. Some are good for getting your family and friends out on their bikes. You may choose what you like however, We have selected the 100 km route to ride together as a club in several speed groups.

There are supported rest stops with food and water (we probably won’t stop at them all).

Visit GCC’s Tour de Guelph page on how to sign up. And have you heard? Tail lights are a good idea.

Arrive early enough to get your arm band from registration – 7:10 ish.

There are four Speed Groups to choose from (not mandatory).  Groups may be combined as needed upon rider numbers.

It’s the long weekend! Time to up the distance a bit as we work towards the famed BGR on June 9th.

The route takes us to an old BGR haunt of Valen’s park.

Be prepared for a fun adventure into the closed Crawley Rd/County road 7… we will persevere.

There are no coffee shops or stores on route so pack some snacks. The map says ‘snack stop’ in the park by I doubt it will be open at this time of year. Tail lights are always a good idea.

A couple options this long weekend. The longer route is going to climb the Kelso escarpment a couple times, along with a few other lumps, so if you want some vertical training please join us. However, if that’s not your thing then there is a flatter, slightly shorter, route on offer also.

Sunday Gravel Ride | May 12, 9:00am

For this Mother’s Day ride we’ll keep it relatively short and simple so you can get back home in good time to celebrate the day. Just an easy out ‘n’ back/lollipop into Center Wellington. We’ll break in Elora with the option to refuel at the Mews or top up fluids and use the facilities at the Visitor Information Center.

Dress appropriately for the conditions and be sure to bring enough nutrition and fluids for yourself. Stay tuned for any updates.

Sunday Road Tours | May 5, 2024 at CANCELLED

***UPDATE*** – Apologies for late notice. Not enough riders signed up for this one and it’s not looking like the greatest weather for a long one. This ride is officially CANCELLED, but for those who remain signed up, feel free to head out on your own for an unofficial road ride.
This Sunday the Grand Tour and medium option will start from the Guelph YMCA.
We’ll plan to head SW to Seaton Road. The Grand Tour will continue toward Glen Morris with a little new road to explore (well … new to me). Both routes will head back home up Foreman and offer a refuel stop at the 97 Station (tarts are great, but hope you’re not craving a Cuppa Joe – may wanna go for a cold fill here lol). The route continues toward home via Gore Rd and the Berg. We’ll officially end the ride in Arkell, but the route length includes heading back into Guelph to The Boathouse. Bring money for a coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea.

PS .. the sign-up link defaults to the Library, but we are meeting/starting from the Guelph Y.

Sunday Not-the-P2A Gravel Ride | April 28th 9:00 AM

Ride is on – we can turn back if it gets too yucky.

I am offering a local gravel ride for the few of us who chose to not spend a bunch of money (more than the annual GCC membership fee!) to ride a not particularly scenic route with a couple thousand other people : )

This is the 2020 BGR route, always a good early season ride. Unfortunately, there is no coffee stop (unless we want a late stop in Rockwood), so bring something for a roadside snack. As rain is predicted, the start time may be adjusted if there is a 3-4 hr predicted rain-free window later than 9AM. If there isn’t a rain-free window, the ride will be cancelled (there are still so many rides remaining with your annual membership fee!)

Mostly gravel, but tail lights are still a good idea.
