Sunday Gravel Ride | November 6th 10:00AM

Note 10AM start due to the time change!

Not one of my more adventurous routes, but (1) we haven’t been over the 3rd line snowmobile bridge for awhile, and (2) I went to a fair amount of trouble earlier this summer to obtain permission for GCC riders to use the driveway just south of Elora that links to the Cottontail Trail and we haven’t used it yet! (Note that permission was happily granted by owners Doog and Nancy whilst attending WAY funner than expected Fork in the Road Music Festival, but that’s another story). We’ll do our usual coffee stop in Elora, so bring money for a coffee stop.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.

Cancelled – Sunday Medium Moderate Road Ride | October 23rd 11:00AM

Cancelling due to low/no participation. Join us on the gravel or L&F ride instead.

The weather looks amazing for a late season ride. If for some crazy reason that changes an update will be posted here no later than an hour before the ride. Since you’ve been working hard all season to strengthen the body and mind, what better time than now to test yourself with the Rattlesnake / Appleby Line climb. If you’ve never done this climb then no better time to try it with a group. We’ll be sure to re-group at the top (a.k.a. waiting for me) and the mid ride break is shortly after as well. Bring money for a coffee stop in Campbellville. Tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday Longer Faster Road Ride | October 23rd – Starting at 9am on York Road

This Sunday promises to be a beauty and nice enough to have a reasonably early start. We’ll start at 9am from the Lost Aviator on York Road. The route is about 120km and heads S/E for a quick Espresso stop on Tremaine in Milton, then up and down the escarpment before heading towards Nemo and Cedar Spring. We’ll come north through Kilbride and Moffatt, then have a go up the Watsonberg, and hopefully end the ride (and almost the season) by raising a glass at Fixed Gear Brewing on Alma. Bring money for a coffee stop and for a pint at the end!!

UPDATE: Remote Start Sunday Gravel Ride | October 23rd 10:30AM

The weather is looking fantastic for a Gravel Ride this Sunday!

Folks have been asking for another Remote Start ever since we rode out of Creemore, so we’re going to the Grey Highlands!

START LOCATION & ROUTE UPDATE: We have learned that there is a major bridge out on our original planned route. We will now use a route we were saving for next year which is just west of the original in the Grey Highlands. Drive time to the start is the same as previous.

We start pedalling at 10:30 am from a club member’s parent’s place near Heathcote, ON. It’s about 1.5 hours drive from Guelph. The route is 86% unpaved according to RWGPS.

Bring a small snack for an early stop at 30K and we will stop at 50K for a paid coffee/snack at Marilynne restaurant in Markdale. Bring money for that.

Afterwards, on the way home, a food stop can be had at the Bicycle Cafe in Flesherton – so fitting.

Carpooling will be arranged through the GCC DISCORD Server.

This could be the last warm gravel ride of the year, depending on how the weather goes. Who knows? So come on out!

Tail lights are a good idea.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Sunday, Oct. 9 Combined Road Ride 11 a.m.

Listen, I get it. It’s Thanksgiving and most of us have things to do and trying to fit a ride in with family obligations and turkey cooking and even a stupid playoff baseball game might be tough. It’s the end of the long summer season and we’ve already made plenty of time for cycling so perhaps, in this particular case, we should prioritize other things.

Or, and just hear me out here, maybe we can squeak in just a quick ride, just a wee rip before turkey time. We’ll feel better about gorging ourselves if we burn some calories first, more tolerant of vaguely annoying extended family members if we’ve spent a little time Zenned out on two wheels: among the things to be thankful for, surely cycling makes the list.

So how about a compromise? There is no long and fast route this week because even ride leaders have to know when a bridge across the gap is a bridge too far. But I have devised a plan that might, just might, have a little something for everyone.

We’ll do a quick 60km loop through Hespeler, no stops. We’ll wave at the Four Fathers patio, breeze by the coffee shop on Queen Street – no time for dilly-dallying today – and finish up at the south end Starbucks. Two hours, with a bullet.

For those of you with more time to spare, there will be a longer route option that adds another 50km or so. I will not be joining for this bit because I like being married so it will be leaderless in practice but not in spirit because we are all leaders on the bike at this point. Might make sense to load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

So let’s give thanks the right way on Sunday: from the saddle, in spandex with our riding friends. Everything else is gravy.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Oct 2nd, 11:00 AM

This is quite a Sunday for gravel riders – a lot of our regulars are at the Hardwood O-Cup CX race, the Bruce Gran Fondo, the Ganny Enduro … but for those of us staying local, it looks like a lovely, albeit cool, day and I look forward to sharing it with you! We’ll head up to Sandy Hills and Floradale, have some coffee in Elmira, and work our way home ending at Fixed Gear.

I haven’t checked out the route from the bottom end of Floradale to the KB trail, and am just trusting heat maps – my apologies if that bit doesn’t work out : )

G1 riders – you have no official ride leader, so make sure you load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Now that it’s October rides now start at 11:00AM. This week we’ll head north to Elora and head home on the fun and fast Middlebrook and Crowsfoot Roads. Hopefully the weather outlook stays sunny but if something does change then any changes or cancellations will be posted here no later than 10:00AM on Sunday morning. Bring money for a coffee/snack/hydration stop in Elora and tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday Longer Faster Road Ride | October 2nd @ **9:00am**

Fingers crossed for better weather this weekend. Lets get in at least one more nice long ride as this GCC season gets closer to an end. Apologies in advance, but I can’t start this ride any later than 9am so dress wisely …. it’ll warm up nicely. We’re meeting at Lost Aviator Coffee to start and then heading out toward some much less familiar roads through Reidsville and Ayr. Explored this route last weekend and loved it. Bring money for a refuel/coffee stop in Ayr. We’ll make our way back through Glen Morris; Scenic Drive and Sheffield. See you Sunday!!

CANCELLED: Sunday Gravel Ride | September 25th 11:00AM

WEATHER UPDATE: Cancelled. Cold we can deal with, but cold and wet is just not pleasant. Things are looking a hair better, but it’s still raining and everything is saturated. No matter what, we will be gritty and wet, and therefore cold and miserable the whole ride. I hate cancelling, but you’re drive train and spirits will thank you for not riding until it gets drier. If anyone wants to organize a un-official ride for later today (if the conditions improve), head over to the GCC DISCORD to make arrangements. Until next time.

If you haven’t pre-registered for the Country Rumble (we provided the routes for that) and are looking for a gravel ride this Sunday, here is one for you.

The conditions are perfect for a multi surface ride along the Grand River in the KW area. If you have never done this route, it’s a real treat with a lot of hidden gems. Bring money for a snack stop. Tail lights are always a good idea.

Please note the NEW 11:00AM start time.

110 KM with lots of places to stop and refuel. Options to extend or shorten if we decide to do so as a group. Ignore the sections on the map that indicate unpaved roads. The entire route is, in fact, paved.

Sunday Medium Moderate Road Ride | Sept. 11, 8 AM

This time of year always makes me a little bit sad and lazy. The days are getting shorter and weekday rides have come to an end: maintaining the fitness I’ve built over the summer gets harder and harder and the couch and the chicken wings are right over there, ready to fill the emptiness in my biking soul.

But wait. There’s one more big club event on Sept. 18 and some cool events this fall. I love my road bike but gravel rips in colder weather is fun, too. Fat biking in the winter is a trip. Zwift isn’t that bad, in moderation. And Sunday rides are still a thing. Maybe I should just keep pedaling and see how it goes.

With that in mind, this Sunday we’ll join forces with Daryl’s Long and Fast group for the run out towards Erin, then loop back through Rockwood for a quick coffee before some late morning hill climbing back to Arkell.

So once more into the breach, dear friends. Summer might be coming to an end, but our two-wheeled journey never stops.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Sept 11 8:00am

Once again, we’re heading out to the copious amount of gravel roads NE of Guelph and making our way into Hillsburgh. Its going to be a spectacular day, so make sure you sunscreen up and bring lots of water. According to RWGPS, this route is 2/3 gravel, which is a good thing, since this is a gravel ride. We’ll make a stop in Hillsburgh to refuel. Bring money for snacks and as always, tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Sept 4th 8AM

RIDE IS ON! Its’ grey and overcast, but there is no rain according to the radar for sometime.

It’s the Labour Day long weekend, or the ‘real’ start to the year as I like to call it. And if you were planning on avoiding driving amongst the crazed masses, this gravel ride might be just the thing to keep you sane and not too far, or long, from the sanctuary of your home. All club members are welcome and the pace will be reasonable with two speed groups to choose from. Next year there might even be three!

This route has something old and something new. It has the longest uninterrupted gravel section of any route we have put together, 49km! RWGPS map surface markings are not completely accurate, BTW.

Bring money for a Butter Tart stop at the Belwood Country Market.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

No Sunday Aug 28 Road Rides

All of our GCC Sunday road ride leaders are off doing other things – how dare they put themselves first! : )

Anyway, we apologize, but there will not be any GCC road rides this Sunday, Aug 28th. If you’ve got one, grab your MTB and join the Big MTB Ride or your gravel bike and join the weekly Sunday gravel ride.

RIDE CANCELLED | Sunday Medium & Moderate Road Ride | August 21st 8:00AM

RIDE CANCELLED. It looks like there’s a 50/50 chance we’d get wet early in the ride and radar suggests a large burst around 10:00 – 11:00 so airing on the side of caution and cancelling the ride.

The weather is not looking good at this time so be sure to check back no later than an hour before the ride to see if we’ll be riding, fingers crossed. This ride will take us east, south, west and north as I couldn’t decide which way to go. We’ll make a stop in Hespeler to refuel as needed. The stop is a bit later in the route so be sure to bring plenty of water. The unofficial end of the ride will be at Gordon and Clair Roads. Bring money for the refuel stop and tail lights are a good idea.
