Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | April 18th 6:00PM

For our first Thursday ride I’ve selected a couple trusty routes that aren’t too long. We will head out to the southeast, going counter clockwise coming back via Eden Mills. Hopefully the weather will cooperate but its a bit of wet forecast, so don’t forget to check back here in case of a cancellation. Bringing lights is always a good idea.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

CANCELLED – Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | August 17 6:00 PM

RIDE CANCELLED due to low sign up numbers and an ominous weather radar. See you next time!

Welcome to the Tour de Fresh Pavement! Astute women may recognize much of this route from last week’s ride but, don’t worry, we will be riding it the opposite direction. Don’t forget about our new earlier start time; the days are getting shorter which means bringing lights is an especially good idea.

CANCELLED: Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | June 15 6:30PM

The official club ride is cancelled.

It was looking good there for a little bit the is afternoon. But now there is sporadic rain in the area, and a line coming ashore from Lake Huron that the weather radar is showing to move through the area during ride time. May not be a drenching rain, but with the temperature in the low teens -likely not very comfortable. Take care if you do decide to venture out.

Thought a little jaunt to the northwest through Ariss and Maryhill would be a nice change of scenery. Hopefully the smoke, rain and thunder gods will all smile on us, but it is looking dicey at the moment. Final call will be posted by 5:30pm on Thursday.

Bringing lights is always a good idea.

Woohoo – the weather Gods are smiling on us! We’re keeping the routes short and simple for this first ride since the sun is still setting quite early. Note the new ride speed categories below; if you were R4 last year, you’re R6 this year (well …. provided you haven’t lost fitness over the winter like some of us), etc. Due to the setting sun, bringing lights is an especially good idea.

The Last Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | Sept 8th 6:00 PM

Ohhh … how can this be? The sun is setting so soon. Let’s show up in droves and rock these last official GCC weeknight rides!

But… there is still plenty of club riding. Sunday Road Rides will continue at least through October and Gravel Rides may go longer still. And don’t forget to sign up for our club’s last ‘BIG’ Event Ride of the year, the BIG100 Century Rides. Click and sign up here. And have we mentioned that #Cross is coming? More info on that coming soon.

And be sure to join the new GCC Discord ‘Server’, GCC’s new communications app for phone, web and desktop. With it you can organize, hear about and attend unofficial rides, access buy and sell, live chat during Zwift rides (when the weather takes us indoors), etc, etc, etc… Details on how to use it are in the club Newsletter you received on Tuesday Sept 6th.

CANCELLED – Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | August 25, 2022 6:00 pm

It’s bucketing rain and the radar signals more on the way. Even if you wanted to join the soggy bum club, Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm alert. Hope you are inspired to join a weekend ride instead, check out the big MTB ride if you haven’t already!

With the Tuesday TAM route changing, I know you’ve all been missing the classic Watsonberg climb at the end of your evening ride. Have no fear, this Thursday we will have a Watsonberg reprise (with re-grouping at the top as needed)! This is a classic club route with a tiny twist.

Bringing lights is always a good idea, but especially now that the days are getting shorter.

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | July 28 6:30

Another Thursday ride, another thunderstorm risk. However, as an unofficial GCC meteorologist, I am willing to bet this ride will go ahead.

If you’ve been riding R4 and have been feeling inspired to surge away from the group, please mosey on over to R3, where you can put that extra energy to excellent use (see the post for the Thursday Advanced Ride to sign-up)! At this point in the season, we aim to keep paces towards the middle of the the posted ride speed to allow all riders to have the opportunity to progress more smoothly into faster rides. Interested in trying a faster group but not sure if you’re ready? Feel free to talk with a Ride Leader to learn more about the different ride groups offered!

We’ll be heading to Cambridge and beautiful Chilligo Road, with the R4 and R5 groups adding a loop on Concession 2.
