Session Details:
Our first gravel clinic will focus on skill and confidence development on technical, loose terrain, with an emphasis on descending. We’ll be using the gravel roads in the Turfgrass tracts on either side of Victoria Rd. for the session.
The sections we ride will be short, with the focus on technical work – we’ll gradually build speed over the course of the evening. The route below is just for reference; we’ll pick out key sections to “session” as we go.
A few key concepts we’ll work on:
- Body position: staying loose and centered so the bike can move underneath you on loose surfaces and you can react to the terrain
- Line choice: reading the terrain ahead and picking the fastest, smoothest line
- Managing speed and momentum: when to let the bike run versus scrub speed, using the terrain to your advantage
- Descending solo vs. in groups: dealing with less than ideal lines, following distance, etc.
Bringing lights is always a good idea.
Route: Again, mainly for reference of the trails we will be mainly using for the session, we will not follow this route exactly.
Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.
