Wednesday Gravel Ride | August 20th, 6:00PM

Welcome to the first W(h)AM! ride, (Wednesday All Member) a R1/2/3 (G1/G2) & R4/5 (G3) gravel ride!

This ride will meet at the Bandshell in Riverside park and leave at 6:00pm, promptly. We will slow roll our way down the rec trail and out across the dam. We will be polite, courteous, slow and full of cheer.

Once we hit Conservation road we will move to a standard rotating paceline. For G1/G2 ride expect it to be 34-38km/h, for G3 expect 28-30km/h.

This is NO DROP (unless you are really in the wrong place), and we will work together nicely to get to our first segment. At that point you will go as hard as you want (think full TAM mode). Once we hit pavement, we regroup and roll together to the next gravel segment where you go full bore again! Make sense? Sort of like interval training, but better. Here are the segments:

  • Segment #1: Campbell Rd. Northbound
  • Segment #2: Jones Baseline
  • Segment #3: 3rd line south, Townline to Sideroad 20
  • Segment #4: 4th line north, Side road 20 to Sideroad 30 (of note, we will regroup on the little section of Sideroad 30 gravel in preparation for the next segment). (G1/2 Only)
  • Segment #5: 3rd line south, Side road 30 to Sideroad 20 (G1/2 Only)

Then we roll home amicably and talk about how much fun we had! Confused? Don’t worry! This is new and we are testing something out, the ride leader will be there to explain and it will be a ton of fun.

Here are some rules to keep it fun and safe:

  • Rail trail is SLOW, we don’t need to make enemies with everyone in the City, it is a shared space.
  • Segments begin when we are ON the gravel road, for example when we hit Campbell Rd. North we will all turn left onto the road and then games begin. We will not be flying into the segment, got it?
  • As per TAM, stop at the stop signs. Less traffic doesn’t mean no traffic.

Fun facts? Some of the segments have bridges that are out. Some of the segments do have stop signs. Some are long. Some are short. You will have to gauge your effort and maybe be tactical. Or not. Who cares, because we will regroup at the end of the segment. Or maybe you should care, because the faster you get to the end, the more time you get for recovery.
