UPDATE: GCC policy says that if the Humidex is 40 or above, the ride is off and so I have what I believe to be our first ever heat-related cancellation. The severe thunderstorm watch probably not great, either. Anyway, stay cool out there kids.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Environment Canada says the Humidex for Thursday will be over 41 degrees, which would force the cancellation of the ride, as per GCC policy enacted this year. Check back Thursday afternoon around 5 p.m. for a final call…
We’ve also reached the stage of the summer where I’m kinda sick of doing the same routes over and over again. Construction in Cambridge has rendered some of my favourite westerly routes inaccessible, particularly the Chilligo stretch into Hespeler. I’ve done all the roads on this route but not in this particular configuration, which is as good as it’s gonna get at this point. The “new” stretch along Concession Road 7 is fun little climb, though the “Bavarian Slide” gravel section it replaced was one of the few remaining dirt roads in the south end. Complaining about the weather, construction and the march of progress… I appear to moving into my “Old Man Yells at Cloud” phase quite nicely.
You should really load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.
