CANCELLED Sunday Medium Moderate Road Ride | May 1st, 11AM

UPDATE 10 A.M: RIDE CANCELLED. With wet roads and more rain in the forecast, I think we’ll make discretion the better part of valour today. Sigh.

For our first Medium Moderate Sunday Road Ride, we will head down to the Flying Monkey Bike Shop and Coffee Bar in Campbellville where we will sip java and ogle all the fancy bikes before heading home through the metropolis of Crief and past the Ellis Chapel. It was built in 1861 and is the only known chapel in Puslinch with easy access to McDonald’s french fries. Alas, we won’t be stopping at the chapel (or for french fries) though if you feel the need to pray to the cycling gods at some point on the ride that’s completely up to you: this is beyond my purview as ride leader.

As this is a new ride, I’m sure there are questions as to the speed, intensity and overall approach. In a nutshell, we will adhere to the officially posted average of 27 to 29 km/h and work together to make it fun for everyone. If you are stronger, you should expect to pull more. If you are still getting back into fighting shape after a long COVID winter of wine drinking and potato chip consumption, well, you can hang out at the back with the rest of the fun kids. As this was my approach to off-season training, I plan to do most of my finest leading while dangling precariously off the rear of the bunch.

OK, this is already the longest ride preview in GCC club history (which is only like 4 days but still.) Come out on Sunday and let’s ride bikes, drink coffee and make our offerings to the cycling gods. It will be fun, I promise.

Start location: Guelph Youth Music Centre (not the library). Plenty of parking for those arriving by car.

We are required to meet separately from the ‘Leisurely’ gravel riders. Our group will be at the north end of the parking lot. See below.

The gravel route is a nice one that uses some Kissing Bridge Trailway and a lot of gravel roads up and around Elora & Fergus.

There will be a coffee/snack stop in Elora

To join this ride, you need to fill in the sign-up form and the link is HERE

You need to follow all the instructions in that link to join the ride. We are capped at 12 riders total – the form will disappear once we have a full roster.

The weather is looking good with a nice starting temperature and then rising. Bring lots of water and electrolytes. See you then!

Sunday August 4th C ride | 8am start

The forecast looks great for this long weekend ride! We’ll do a clockwise route up past Oustic, then south (taking in a bit of gravel) to stop at Goodfellow’s in Rockwood. Continuing south, we’ll finish up with the Watsonberg.

This group will be riding at a social pace of 26-28km/h. If this is your first ride this year, or first in a while, be sure to review all of the excellent info in our “New Members” resources page.

Sunday July 14th 8 AM C Ride

Gorgeous conditions predicted for a classic CW loop that takes us down Watsonburg, past Crief and into Hespeler for a halfway stop at Creme Cafe (bring some cash for that). Then we continue up Chilligo to Maryhill, Ariss and back home all in time for lunch. EC says we’ll have a cool start of 15 degrees with no humidity and almost no wind and finishing under complete sun and 21 degrees. We’ll be riding at a leisurely 26 to 28 kph average. Apply your sunscreen under your arm warmers (weird!).

Sunday May 5 | C Ride | 8:00am | 80kms

***PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE*** By popular demand, this Sunday morning is starting at the new start time of 8:00am!! We’ll head south and make our way through Kilbride and then head into Carlisle for a coffee stop. We’ll be heading back north up Millborough and Watson. We’ll be sticking to the posted 26 – 28kph average for this ride. Fingers crossed for a beautiful day.

Sunday Sept 23rd 9:00 AM | Women’s Leisurely Paced Ride

This is a new Club ride designed for those of us who don’t want to slow down the riders on the regular Sunday Medium ride.  It is “women-centric”, but a ‘few good men’ are welcome too! For this week, Meg will be leading a 75 km route with a planned average of 27-28 kph. Unfortunately, there won’t be anywhere to buy a snack on this route, so please plan to carry something with you and we’ll have a wee break at the Limehouse Community Centre.

Medium Ride Sunday July 29, 9:00am

This 76 km Fergus-Elora coffee run should get us home by lunch and before any threat of rain. We’ll be crossing the covered bridge at West Montrose (someone please open a cafe here!). A cool Saturday evening should make for a perfect start as the day warm towards noon. Bring a little money for the cafe in Elora. See you soon.
