Sunday Gravel Ride | July 25th, 8:00 am

RIDE CANCELLED   Slick mucky trails and a few other compounding factors have led to the cancellation of this ride. We’ll try this route another time. The road ride is still on.

This is a slightly longish one but has a perfectly placed snack stop halfway in Elmira. If you’ve never been around the Floradale reservoir or through Wilson Flats (backwards – this time) you’re in for a treat. We also cut through Edna and Daniel Martin’s Mennonite Maple Syrup farm. Sorry, no Sunday sales. Too bad, a little syrup in your water = yum + zip!

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

Recreational Gravel: 21-24 km/h average
Intermediate Gravel: 24-26 km/h average

Check back for weather cancellation posted no later than 7:00 AM.

Advance sign-up required. Click here: Sunday Gravel Rides. You will have to create an account on Signup.com

Start time: please be ready to pedal at 8:00 AM

Start location: The Guelph Youth Music Centre – GYMC

Sunday 07/18 Gravel- 8:00am

A slightly different route for this weekend’s Gravel sampling. We’ll head northeast along some of the familiar roads of last year’s Big Gravel Ride. Then we’ll turn north and hit the rail trail heading into Fergus, with a slight detour to the Belwood Country Market for a refreshment stop (butter tarts highly recommended!). We’ll then turn westward on the Elora Cataract Trail and take it most of the way into Elora, before turning south and heading back along the Guelph-Elora Trail and back to the start.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

Recreational Gravel: 21-24 km/h average
Intermediate Gravel: 24-26 km/h average

Weather is, like all rides it seems lately, iffy. Hopefully the forecast improves! Check back for weather cancellation posted no later than 7:00 AM. Weather looks great today, now! No rain forecasted until 5pm!

Sunday Gravel Ride | July 4th, 8:00 am

A chilled plate begins this multi course affair with an amuse bouche of G2G followed by some Wilson Flats. The meat and potatoes of the ride are grass fed and northern, pairing well with Carroll’s Creek’s eau de swamp. We’ll then sample a midway snack (literally) at The Right Spot in Alma. Irvine Bridge is a delicious entree before a dual sampling of both of Elora’s rail trails with just a hint of Fergusian reduction. A seldom used Side Rd 6 North is a welcome digestif for the ride south. And the Speed River Trail is the dessert course that brings us back to the GYMC in time for a hot lunch. Vegan option available. Definitely contains nuts.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

Recreational Gravel: 21-24 km/h average

Sunday Nov 29th, 12 Noon Gravel Ride

Well here’s one for the record books. The weather for this Sunday is looking good – sunny with a high of 7 – so a gravel riding we will go! But it’s still chilly by usual standards, dress appropriately – a later start at noon should help some.

There will be a snack stop in Elmira – the ‘Local Renaissance’ cafe has been confirmed to be open. Bring cash/card and a mask for that.

If the group splits, we will regroup throughout the ride and no one will be left behind. Try loading the course into your bike computer if you have one. RWGPS has lots of on-line help.

Start time: 12 Noon – Mornings are much colder now!

Start location: Guelph Youth Music Centre

Register HERE. Note: All steps in the form must be completed!

Sunday Nov 15th Gravel Ride

According to the forecast there most likely will not be a club gravel ride this Sunday. If for some miraculous reason the weather completely turns around, we will quickly post a ride. Check back if that should happen.

It should also be noted that we will keep trying to hold gravel rides until we can’t anymore. Limiting factors will be snow, rain, or temperatures below 5 degrees. After that you’re on your own out in the cold or on the road to Watopia.

Hope to see you soon, Rusty K.

Original Post: The forecast for this Sunday’s Gravel ride is “rain showers or flurries ” – so most likely will not run. RIDE CANCELLED – too wet and cold = frowny faces

This Sunday’s 70km Gravel ride is last year’s BGR (Big Gravel Ride) club event in reverse! This in-town multi surface route is best ridden when Guelphites are shuttered – the forecast is promising that at this point. If you didn’t ride this last year then you will be discovering some hidden gems in your own backyard. And if you did ride it last year, taking it the other way ’round will feel totally different!

However, the weather is looking less than optimal at this point. Final weather call will be made no later than 10 AM.

We have a rest/re-fuel stop in Farnham at 30 km. Bring cash/card and a mask.

If the group splits, we will regroup throughout the ride and no one will be left behind. Try loading the course into your bike computer if you have one. RWGPS has lots of on-line help.
