Club Time Trial #3 – Wednesday July 24/13

The third of our 4 event time trial series!

Will the string of Personal Best times continue?

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is a 17km long out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Fourth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:  Ryan Roth 22:08.49 – 46.07 km/hr  – July 18/12

Meeting Location:  Start Line – 4th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

Another great night for the time trial. Comfortable temperatures and light wind greeted the riders, and they used it to their advantage. Two personal Best times, 2 season best times, and a new course record were the result. Ryan Roth managed to find an extra 0.5km/hr of speed from last year, and averaged 46.57 km/hr for the 17km distance, in the process shaving 14 seconds off his previous course record. Andy Mill continued his steady progression setting yet another personal best time, and moving into the top 5 fastest overall. After missing the earlier TT’s this year (and apparently being away from his bike and unable to train) Derek Snider posted a time only 45 seconds slower than last year’s personal best. Certainly a sign that of good things to come for next month’s TT. Results Place Name Time km/hr 1 Ryan Roth 21:54.05 46.57 CR PB 100.00% 2 Andy Mill 24:15.21 42.06 PB 90.30% 3 Derek Snider 25:47.13 39.56 84.93% weather: 20 degrees, clear, sunny, winds N 10 km/hr, humidity 46%

  2. Another excellent night for a time trial. Three riders turned out. Two PBs including a new course record! The third rider had a season PB. Steve can fill in the details.
