Club Time Trial #2 – Wednesday June 18/14

The second of our 4 event time trial series!

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is a 17km long out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Fourth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:  Ryan Roth 21:30.39 – 47.43 km/hr  – August 21/13

Meeting Location:  Start Line – 4th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

Wednesday June 11th ride | 6:30pm

Update 4:50pm, weather looks good, ride is on.

If we have a larger group like last week, we will start with two groups at the beginning. Please review the ride description and requirements for Wednesday rides. We'll try to emphasize smoother rotations on the front of the pack, and consistent riding (vs. surging and braking in the pack).

55k loop: south on Watson, across Milburough and side road 3, and then back up 1st Line. The construction at the railroad crossing on Milburough is done.

Wednesday – Social Ride – June 4

By popular demand, the route is a little longer this week.  We will be striving to maintain the 28 kph pace.  If it looks like we are stuck for time, I may shorten the ride by turning onto 20 Sideroad instead of 15 which will shorten the ride by 8 km.

For those interested, I will be going for a pint/food at Woolie after the ride.

Sunday, June 1 rides | 9:00 A.M. START

Two rides to choose from, each taking advantage of the forecasted south winds and warm, sunny weather.

The Longer Ride will sneak up on Cafe Domestique from an altogether different direction and via some seldom-travelled-by-SRCC roads. Then we'll revel in our cleverness as we enjoy Americanos and baked goods on the porch and/or back patio. Then we'll ride home on some other roads that are admittedly less sneaky, but still not the typical path.

The Longish Ride will ply the scenic roads north of Kilbride before stopping at The Trail Eatery in Campbelliville for some good eats and drink. Be sure to try the cookie with the PB cup in the middle… yum! Chris Thomas will be your ride leader du jour.

Remember to bring your club cards, wear sunscreen, know the route, ride safe and have fun!

LONGER RIDE

LONGISH RIDE

Thursday ride – May 22nd 6:30pm

The usual A and B groups, forecast looks good!

As a quick reminder, as more riders are coming out for the summer months:

– ride two abreast, 'tight-and-to-the-right’, the paceline rotates clockwise at 30s – 3min intervals, maintaining ‘2-up’ formation at all times; if new to the group, simply slot in toward the back at beginning of ride and follow our lead; ask anyone for info/guidance at any time
– it is not mandatory to participate in the rotation
– never cross the yellow line or run red lights, avoid half-wheeling and sudden movements, and report dangerous riding to ride leaders
– stay to the right on a climb and only pass on the left
– maintain good communication up and down the line; call out road hazards and traffic, advise the group when a rider is off the back or struggling
– know the route, particularly when you’re on the front, and signal turns well in advance
– let others know if you are planning on leaving the group
