The short Sunday rides will continue

Due to the excellent response, we've decided to continue the shorter Sunday rides through the rest of the summer. As the ride description says, these rides are between 60 to 80 km with a maximum average of 28 km/h. This ride is aimed at recreational riders looking to build endurance with a longer effort at a moderate pace. The emphasis is on participation, fun and social interaction with a potential refuelling stop.

Sunday July 6th A and B rides 9:00am

Here are the A and B routes for Sunday. We are happily going to be continuing with both rides due to the popularity of this format. Longer ride will take us to Grand Valley for a change of scenery, that and the fact that I live in the north end of the city. I am also planning on doing an out of town ride for the Sunday July 20th club ride and am wondering how much interest there would be in doing the Primrose-Creemore loop. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2554759
We can easily carpool people up and the route is really nice. Please post to the comments if this interests you. Thanks Cory.

Shorter B ride but hilly, Luc will be ride leader for this ride.

The first Tour de Guelph is happening soon, please support your local organizers and the Guelph General Hospital! 5k to 100k options availalbe. Visit their website, day-of registration is still an option. All fees go to a great cause. The club will however be running it's regular rides on that Sunday.

Sunday, June 29th rides | 9am

Forecast looks okay for now, but it should definitely be a warm one. Since it's the last Sunday of the month, we'll have a post-ride patio beer somewhere. Due to the heat, I think it might be wise for people to get cleaned up after the ride, as opposed to hitting a patio right at the end. Let's say 2:30pm at the Wooly for now.

The longer ride will be a climb-fest 🙂 I'm stealing Bayden's Bell school climb, which never seems to materialize on Tuesdays… yet.

Shorter ride down near Carlisle:

Thursday ride – June 26th 6:30pm

5:33pm Update:  Ride is ON.   A few isolated showers are popping up here and there, but sky is generally bright at the moment. We should be good.

As usual, we'll do A and B groups. Forecast looks good, but if it looks like it might rain, we'll post an update by 5:30pm.

WEDNESDAY ride, 6:30 p.m.

UPDATE 5:45 PM: WEATHER LOOKS GOOD WE ARE ON, LIKE DONKEY KONG.

A long-ish route given all the daylight we've got at the moment. Well, except for the clouds. And the rain. Ride status will be updated at 5:30 p.m. and route may be shortened if weather dictates.

Wednesday 061814

Here is Wednesday Nights ride!

We have brought the route length back into the advertised 30-50km range and in regards to speed, we have no goal (we will not exceed the avg of 28km/h). Simply we want to move as smoothly, safely and steadily as the group will allow. We want to ride as a group, not as a bunch of individuals.

Ideally we will reduce/eliminate surging and work on creating an efficient group that will allow every member of the ride to enjoy themselves and have a great ride. This is a ride for for all members but with a focus on making sure our newer members have a safe and supportive place to learn the ways of the road. It is also a place for those of us who haven't perhaps been riding alot … errr …

If the weather isn't terrible, it will be on!

Learn To Ride Wednesday 6PM (second to last for the season)

This short course is strongly recommended for any new-to-the-club riders (whether experienced with pack riding or not)  Every club has its own culture and rules. This is the easy way to learn them.

Step 1 Read Group Riding Skills 101 at http://03c25d2.netsolhost.com/wp15/p/group-ride-info.html#Skills,

Step 2 Arrive at 6PM,  30 minutes before the Wednesday ride. An instructor will take you through the Speed River Club bike and personal safety rules, pack riding skills and responsibilities, introduce the new Social Paceline system, and answer any questions you may have.

Step 3 We will leave before the main ride, practice skills and do some drills along the Wednesday ride  route. When the main pack arrives, we will join in and continue instruction and practice as needed.

Not sure if you need this? If in doubt, do it.
