Sunday July 27th rides | 9am
Weather forecast looks good, it might actually get a bit warm. Also, best of luck to those club members who are headed to road Provincials on Saturday, looks like quite the field!
Long ride counter-clockwise (ooooh) to St. George:
Shorter ride to Erin (with an attempt to avoid the construction around Arkell):
Thursday Ride – July 24, 2014 6:30pm
A & B groups as usual. Weather doesn’t get any better than this!
Wednesday 072214
Stealing this from Gord because … well, I like the route. Except for the jog on 24 it is low traffic and great roads. Plus it is the ol stomping grounds of both Krysta and I. You might get splattered with a tear or two as we roll by the place we grew up (as a note, we were neighbors, we aren't related).
I will try to peel out of work a bit earlier and show up on time … provided no one brings the rain. Got it?
Club Time Trial #3 – Wed July 23/14
After being postponed last week the third of our 4 event time trial series is set to go on Wednesday!
Time trials are a great way to test your fitness. It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you! No drafting is allowed.
We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.
The course is a 17km long out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Fourth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)
TIPS
- maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
- have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
- position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
- discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.
REMINDER
- please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
- please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
- please remember to bring your club membership card.
Course Record: Ryan Roth 21:30.39 – 47.43 km/hr – August 21/13
Meeting Location: Start Line – 4th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)
Meeting Time: Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm
RESULTS
With the humidity from the past few days gone, conditions were pretty comfortable for tonight’s TT: sunny clear skies, a light breeze, and cool temperatures. Riders were quick to capitalize, delivering 2 PB’s!Don’t worry Gabhan, your mojo will come back eventually 😉
- Andy Mill 23:59.69 42.50 km/hr PB
- Gabhan Chalmers 25:38.98 39.77 km/hr
- Kevin Bodbyl 28:25.84 35.88 km/hr PB (merckx)
Weather: 17 degrees, clear, sunny, winds N 16km/hr, humidity 71%
Tues. Hammerfest July 22 – 6:30pm
One last crack at Bell Schoo Line while we have the daylight. Looking like a south wind to take us home too 🙂
Sunday July 20th rides: 9:00 am: A is on, B is cancelled
Well the most current radar shows the rain will pass just south of Guelph and Primrose so we are good to go! The Long ride will be starting out of town for a change of scenery in Primrose at the Subway restaurant parking lot at 9:00 am. Many of the people going are able to take multiple bikes so carpooling will be available. Please post below if you can/want to carpool up. For people who want to drive up together let's meet at the library at 8:00 and head up from there. The bridge on third concession may be out so we will continue to fourth if that's the case.
Given the rain, Drew is cancelling the B ride. Now optional.
Thursday Ride
Thursday A and B groups as usual, forcast looks perfect for a pleasant evening ride.
Wednesday July 16th ride | 6:30pm
Rain, if any, will be minimal. Ride is on. Please note that the learn to ride clinics are done for the year.
Wednesday (July 16) time trial postponed
Due to a last-minute scheduling conflict, we're going to move the third time trial of the year to next week, Wednesday July 23rd. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Tues. Hammerfest: July 15th
4pm Update: Looks like a little shower will be rolling through at 6-6:30pm. For now we'll keep the ride on but check in with the sky for last minute updates before leaving home!
The forcast actually looks good for once! Face melt route:
Sunday July 13, A and B rides: Ride cancelled due to rain!
Here is the A route for Sunday. Ride is officially cancelled with the rain that is supposed to come however it looks like it stops around 11:00 and if people still want to come out and ride you are more than welcome it just won't be an official club ride.
This is Drew, hijacking Cory's post. The B route is on the longish side but it's mid-summer and you can't do this ride in February. There will be a stop at the bakery in Erin for deliciousness.
Thursday, July 10 ride | 6:30 p.m.
4:35 UPDATE: Looks like there's potential for the odd, super-isolated shower this evening, but nothing that should keep us off our bikes. RIDE IS ON!
Let's take our motley crew west, see if we can't mix it up with the WCC Thursday gang. A and B groups, like we do.
Wednesday July 9th ride
Since it will be Nunavut day (no, really… check your calendar), we’ll head north
Tues. THUNDERerfest: July 8th 6:30pm
4:18pm Update: Ride is ON
12:30pm Update: Radar/forcast is looking promising for this evening, ride is likely, but will confirm closer to 4pm. ALSO, the bridge/dam on 124 by Guelph lake is under construction and 1 lane. May have a few minutes delay there.
Tentative with YET ANOTHER thunderstorm on the docket, but here's a new twist on an old favorite:
