Interest in skinsuits

As a side project, we've been looking into ordering custom skinsuits for the club.  These are great for time-trials, cyclocross, and crits… and road rides if you're into that.

Tom has contacted Vie13 (http://www.vie13.com/product_long_sleeve_skinsuit.html) and it looks like with full custom SRCC logo-ing would come out to about $110 a piece.  This is a very reputable company, and the clothing is made in the States with a quick turn-around time (unlike the usual Giordana gong show).

Please email me at gabhan@guelphcyclingclub.ca if you are interested.

Sunday Ride, June 16, 9:00 am

Ride is cancelled…. Check the comments below, I may ride at 10 am being that it looks to improve by then.  I will post something there..

For Fathers Day ride we will explore some roads to the west and head towards St George.  Its a longish ride but relatively flat.  A continuous stream of rollers towards St George but nothing overly challenging.  We'll stop at Browne Dog Coffee shop for a quick snack.  Now lets just hope the the 2 hours of rain they are calling for moves to another part of the day…

Time-trial calendar mistake

I accidentally posted the wrong dates for the time trials on the Google calendar.  The next TT is not tomorrow, but NEXT week.  Apologies if this has messed up anyone's plans, send the hate-mail this way.  All remaining dates have been corrected.

Sorry again,

-Gabhan

LAST Skills and Safety Course Wednesday 6PM

The Skills and Safety Course has had participants every week, all new members. The LAST in the series will be held Wednesday June 12 at 6PM starting at Planet Bean on Grange.

We may hold a course or two in July and August

If you are attending  or want a refresher, the course material is posted under Group Rides.

Wednesday, June 12 ride | 6:30 p.m. CANCELLED!

RIDE IS CANCELLED. Seriously hate to pull the plug, but it looks like there's a cell inbound from the north that will likely not clear the area until well into our ride window. Better safe than miserable and dirty. Sorry folks, we'll have to park this route for another evening!

We're into the longest days of the year, so let's take advantage! We'll do a 56k route that will take us to some lesser frequented roads north and west of Guelph, returning via the lake. Departing The Bean at 6:30 sharp.

Sunday ride June 9th, 9AM

Since last Sunday's ride was rained out, let's try the same route, but with 6th line put back in.

I don't think there are any food stops en route, but it's only an even 100k, and there is still the Gatorade/water vending machine at the top of Rattlesnake. Bring your climbing legs!

Ride Cancelled

Looking crappy enough going forward that the official ride is cancelled. I'm sick of looking out the window and doing nothing as I can't decide what I'm going to do tonight.

Fortunately I'm skipping the tour, having just ridden the Giro, and my program will have me refocus on the Vuelta so … you know. I can afford to take a day off here or there.

But that Gabhan guy … eesh. I worry about what's going to happen to HIS fitness.

Wednesday Night Ride – 5 June 6:30 PM

Going for 47 km as the days are getting longer.

Tonight we will be running the new road cycling skills safety course which is highly recommended for all riders participating in club rides. The objective is to improve safety, enjoyment, and cycling skills in group riding.

Offered every Wednesday until June 9, it leaves from Planet Bean on Grange Road at 6 p.m. sharp and rides along the same route as the Wednesday ride. A ride instructor will cover the key points of group cycling and there will be frequent stops, a slow pace, instruction and tips for efficient, safe and enjoyable group riding.

The group will be caught by the Wednesday Night Ride about 6:45 and join in.

Content:

• Checking bike mechanical issues (mechanical safety)
• Why a paceline? (effort, efficiency, road safety, fellowship)
• How to ride in a group (spacing, drafting, safe braking, rules of the road in groups, trust)
• Etiquette (looking after each other, road hazards, communication, cars)
• Tips (gearing, cadence, eating and drinking, efficiency)

For a full description of the topics covered in the skills course, please see our Group Ride Information page.

Tuesday Hammerfest: 6:30pm, June 3rd

Good weather in store for tomorrow night so we’ll do a nice one. As this is a point to point route we’ll make two groups and send the first off 5 mins ahead.

– Notes: This isn’t a pursuit kinda thing, or a slow/fast group kinda thing. Both groups will be jamming, but the first group has the added benefit of a second chance. If you get popped off the first group you’ll have time to rest and rejoin the second.

Longer route, so as usual aiming for a timely departure.

Sunday, June 2nd 9AM ride CANCELED

RIDE CANCELED DUE TO RAIN, see comments for details.

First June ride, and June means Rattlesnake!

Weather forecast looks alright, might be some rain overnight Saturday, so will keep an eye on that.

Route is under 100k, but hilly, so we'll just stop at the bless-ed Gatorade machine at the top of Rattlesnake for drinks if people need them (bring change if possible).  Lots of hills, so regrouping will be a high priority.

Route updated to remove 6th Line climb, a bunch of triathetes are taking it over or something…

May 29th – Wednesday Night Ride

THE RIDE IS ON.  The weather radar is clear.

Route changed in case some of the roads are still closed for constuction!  Weather looking much better.  Check back at 4:30.  I will make the final go/no go call at 4:30 pm.
