Wednesday ride July 10th

Ride is a on. Storm cells seem to have passed. If you're concerned about the weather, then please use your discretion. Roads will be wet I imagine.

Bit of a different route, heading left onto Stone Rd where we usually go straight. There is a small stretch of hardpack gravel, but it's easy to navigate.

Sunday July 7th ride CANCELLED

Ride cancelled. There is a high POP for the rest of the day, with thunderstorms. Looks like the clouds are appearing quickly, and it would be unwise to do a ride with the threat of lightning.

Let's call this the big epic of the summer, 130k with lots of climbing (Sydenham, Snake Rd, Rattlesnake).

Some gravel on the way out (to save kms) but otherswise smooth.  Lots of water and food stops along the way.

Wednesday, July 3 ride | 6:30 p.m. CANCELLED!

RIDE IS CANCELLED! There may well be a ride window between now and 9:00, but things are looking pretty unsettled. I'm going to call off the official ride and leave it to everyone's best judgement as to whether you go out for a spin tonight.

Let's try north and west for a change, returning over Guelph lake. The distance shouldn't be a problem with the longer, summer evenings, but the weather's looking a little unsettled (shocking!). I'll make a call by 5:30 p.m… watch this space.

Oh, and by the way, think smooth thoughts on Wednesday. That'll be the order of the evening…smooth, consistent, predictable riding.

Sunday, June 30 ride, 9 a.m.

A great ride today: 105 km with a 33 km/h average.

But the best part was the receovery drinks served on the Borealis patio afterwards.

Club

A 90km loop through Maryhill-Elora with the possibility of a stop for a bite in Elora and/or a beer afterwards.

Thursday June 27th ride

Ride is a go!  Looks like the rain might be coming later, so we'll do a shorter loop (note updated map).

Usual Thursday format, A and B groups, probably do the rotating paceline again for a while. Victoria back into Guelph to mix it up.

Wednesday Group Ride: June 26th, 6:30pm

UPDATE 5:30 p.m.: The ride is a GO. Gonna be hot but nice…

UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: Dana can't make it tonight, so Drew will be leading. Because we did pretty much the same route as Dana suggested last week, I'm changing it to the map below.

I'll update at 5:30 p.m. with a weather call but it looks good.

Hey Folks,

I was contacted by student at Georgian College with a request to pass the following survey onto our members. Obviously, having run through the survey, they are trying to increase cycle tourism. Not a bad thing IMO. Have at'er if you will!

http://fluidsurveys.com/s/roadcyclingsurvey2013/

As a "thank-you" for filling out this survey, all recipients can choose to be entered into a draw for a two night accommodation for two and a $100 dinner voucher all valued at $500, after completing the survey.

These online surveys will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete, and strictly pertain to cycling.

Tues. Hammerfest: Guelph Lake Loops

With hot weather and risk of thunerstorms, the nearby Guelph Lake loops will be a fitting option for this week.

Will update by 4pm if ride is cancelled outright.

Pre-4pm Update: The forcast is 60% pop with ~1mm of rain, but the radar looks completely clear until 9pm. So unless it's raining or thundering at 6:30pm, the ride is on, and we can ride as long as weather allows.

Sunday ride June 23rd 9AM

Ride is a go!

We'll try Rob's route from last week which got rained out.  Hopefully it won't be again, but the forecast isn't looking great.

Expect the fast guys to be off at the Tour of Waterloo, so if you've been looking for a longer ride w/o a punishing pace, this should the one.  Food/water at the St. George coffee shop (it's good).

Oh, and there's a section of gravel out there somewhere, Rule #5 applies.

Thursday ride, June 20

Same route as we were going to do last week.  We're going to do a paceline as well, rotation counter-clockwise.  I'll do a bit of a pre-ride talk so we're all on the same page.  A and B groups again as well.

Club Time Trial #2 – Wednesday June 19

The second of our 4 event time trial series!

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is a 17km long out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Fourth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:  Ryan Roth 22:08.49 – 46.07 km/hr  – July 18/12

Meeting Location:  Start Line – 4th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm
