Sunday July 28th ride – 9am

We've done this route once before and it was great. Looking like perfect cycling weather, even though a bit cool in the morning.  End-of-month club social to be held on the Borealis patio again, at the end of the ride!

Best of luck to those riding Provincials on Sunday as well!

Tour Fantasy Prizing!

No fault of anyone but mine … this has been delayed. Top picture is the top 3 with Oakleys to #1, Tyres to #2 and a 50$ GC to third place. Lanterne Rouge … this is a surprise!

Cory stopped by today to grab his Oakleys and let his mullet fly with pride. THAT is a hair cut.

Club Time Trial #3 – Wednesday July 24/13

The third of our 4 event time trial series!

Will the string of Personal Best times continue?

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is a 17km long out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Fourth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:  Ryan Roth 22:08.49 – 46.07 km/hr  – July 18/12

Meeting Location:  Start Line – 4th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

Final call for skinsuits!

Sunday, July 21 ride | 9:00 a.m.

A route to the east of modest distance, with a stop at The Shed Coffee Bar in Erin. Looks like the oppressive heat will break in time for our ride, and we may even enjoy a tailwind on the return leg.

An SRCC Moment
Chillin' out and looking cool (Gabhan in particular) at The Shed in Erin.

Support Terry’s Tour 2K13 – Saturday July 27

Posted via Jim Wadleigh:

Let’s escort Terry Manning into town July 27th!

Terry Manning, 69 and a self-described “tough old fart”, is about halfway across the continent on a fundraiser for the Guelph General Hospital (you know, the place that heals you after crashing). So far, he has raised half of his $60,000 goal. http://terrystour2k13.wordpress.com/

He arrives in his home town, Guelph, Saturday July 27 in the afternoon (estimated 3:30PM). The club is coordinating a “Lead Out Train” of riders in Speed River Cycling Club kit (this is a non-club ride) to escort him from Elmira into Guelph, ending at Guelph General Hospital Emergency entrance for refreshments.
If you want to join in to support Terry and your hospital, just let me know at jimwadleigh@rogers.com. I will contact you with final details next week. Probably take from 1PM to 4PM to get it done if you ride to Elmira and back, less if you take a taxi over.
Let’s show our strength as a club and get some publicity for SRCC and Terry.
Questions? Same email.

Thursday July 18 ride

Ride is a go, rain *shouldn't* hit until at least 9PM.  Going to be another HOT one out there. If you are at all concerned about the heat, please use discretion.

That being said, freeze your waterbottles and take it easy out there. The B group will be taking it easy so as not to overheat.

Thursday, July 11 ride | 6:30 p.m.

I've proposed variations of this route twice this year, and twice had to cancel due to weather. Here's hoping the third time's a charm! Pay special attention to the routing through Maryhill and up to 8th line…a few turns in there. Otherwise, pretty straightforward.

A and B groups, like usual. If you ride with group A, don't be surprised if the pace escalates within site of the finish–no sprinting, and nothing crazy, but that's how they roll.
