CANCELLED: Sunday Gravel Ride | June 11 8:00AM

7:30AM: RIDE IS CANCELLED. While it might not rain, it’s probably going to rain. You’re welcome to ride on your own – I’d bring the rain jacket, if you do.

With the (really fun!) BGR under our belt-less bibs, let’s tackle another longer gravel ride this Sunday. The air quality will hopefully be improving a change in wind direction, so it’s looking like a lovely day for a ride. I will keep an eye on the weather and update by Sunday morning at 7:30am.

Groups can choose if they would like to jut north into Belwood at km 61 for a refresher, or continue on without a stop – if you’ve ridden with me, you know my preference is the latter 🙂

Sunday Gravel Ride | May 28th 8:00AM

It’s looking like a nice day for a long-ish gravel ride in preparation for next week’s BGR! But you’ll still be home in time for lunch!

Bring a small snack for a real brief trail side nature break at the snow mobile bridge at Wilson’s Flats and then a few sheckles for a proper Coffee stop in Fergus at the Vault Cafe.

Graveliers celebrate Mother’s Day, thanks Hallmark!

Forecast is looking nice for this Mother’s day ride, but Saturday’s overnight low is only 1°C. Meaning –> chilly morning. Can’t see the hourly prediction at the time of posting. This may get adjusted again. Check back to be sure of our start time.

Bring your own snacks for a rest stop. We’re stopping at the Danish place, but it might not be open when we get there. Tail lights are a good idea.

This ride is routed to Fixed Gear Brewing on Alma street in celebration of Mother’s Day! Prost mama!

Sunday Gravel Ride | May 7, 9:00am

UPDATE: We have a new route due to the forecast. The weather system is moving in from the west and looking daunting, but exact timing is uncertain. We will employ the ‘Red October’ protocol of riding toward it, meeting it head on. This allows us to retreat in the dry when necessary. We might get the whole ride in, maybe only 10K. But we won’t know unless we try.

The planned Cafe stop will now be in Elmira.

RIDE CANCELLED, RAINING. The weather gods look angry this weekend… it must be P2A time again 🙂

The go/no-go call will be made by 10AM at the latest, but rain looks very likely. Best of luck to all of the club members racing this weekend!

Sunday Gravel, 04/23, 11am

Well, it’s definitely not going to be as warm as last week! But this is an opportunity for a tune-up before P2A next weekend. Dress for the weather – it’s going to be 6 degrees at the start, but it’ll be sunny, at least!

This route is taking us northeast, then over through Fergus and Elora, before bringing us home via the G2G trail. We’ll stop in Elora for a coffee and a quick break..

Sunday Gravel Ride | April 16th 10:00AM – New Start Time!

Welcome to the very first Sunday Gravel ride for 2023! The weather is looking much better than at the time of original posting. We are adjusting the start time to match the unseasonably warm weather.

As always, we’ll start the year with slightly shorter routes and keep building as the season progresses, as does our fitness. We’re heading south; there is still snow on the rail trails north of Guelph. This should be a good route for those preparing for P2A.

Bring money for a coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday Gravel Ride | November 6th 10:00AM

Note 10AM start due to the time change!

Not one of my more adventurous routes, but (1) we haven’t been over the 3rd line snowmobile bridge for awhile, and (2) I went to a fair amount of trouble earlier this summer to obtain permission for GCC riders to use the driveway just south of Elora that links to the Cottontail Trail and we haven’t used it yet! (Note that permission was happily granted by owners Doog and Nancy whilst attending WAY funner than expected Fork in the Road Music Festival, but that’s another story). We’ll do our usual coffee stop in Elora, so bring money for a coffee stop.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Oct 30 11am

Say it isn’t so! This is supposedly the final scheduled gravel ride for the 2022 season! We’re not going to go down without a fight, so we’re going to take advantage of what promises to be a seasonably lovely day for a ride out to some bits north of town that I’ve never done, and hopefully you haven’t either. We’ll make the mandatory buttertart stop at the halfway point in Bellwood before venturing out and hitting Jones Baseline for the return jaunt through Fergus.

Bring money for a coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea.

UPDATE: Remote Start Sunday Gravel Ride | October 23rd 10:30AM

The weather is looking fantastic for a Gravel Ride this Sunday!

Folks have been asking for another Remote Start ever since we rode out of Creemore, so we’re going to the Grey Highlands!

START LOCATION & ROUTE UPDATE: We have learned that there is a major bridge out on our original planned route. We will now use a route we were saving for next year which is just west of the original in the Grey Highlands. Drive time to the start is the same as previous.

We start pedalling at 10:30 am from a club member’s parent’s place near Heathcote, ON. It’s about 1.5 hours drive from Guelph. The route is 86% unpaved according to RWGPS.

Bring a small snack for an early stop at 30K and we will stop at 50K for a paid coffee/snack at Marilynne restaurant in Markdale. Bring money for that.

Afterwards, on the way home, a food stop can be had at the Bicycle Cafe in Flesherton – so fitting.

Carpooling will be arranged through the GCC DISCORD Server.

This could be the last warm gravel ride of the year, depending on how the weather goes. Who knows? So come on out!

Tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday October 9th Gravel Ride | 11AM

There will be a gravel ride on Sunday, 11AM start, possibly combined depending on numbers. It’s on the shorter side (just over 60k back to downtown), but I’m guessing that most people could probably use time savings. Going to be a bit cool, so dress in layers!

CANCELLED: Sunday Gravel Ride | September 25th 11:00AM

WEATHER UPDATE: Cancelled. Cold we can deal with, but cold and wet is just not pleasant. Things are looking a hair better, but it’s still raining and everything is saturated. No matter what, we will be gritty and wet, and therefore cold and miserable the whole ride. I hate cancelling, but you’re drive train and spirits will thank you for not riding until it gets drier. If anyone wants to organize a un-official ride for later today (if the conditions improve), head over to the GCC DISCORD to make arrangements. Until next time.

If you haven’t pre-registered for the Country Rumble (we provided the routes for that) and are looking for a gravel ride this Sunday, here is one for you.

The conditions are perfect for a multi surface ride along the Grand River in the KW area. If you have never done this route, it’s a real treat with a lot of hidden gems. Bring money for a snack stop. Tail lights are always a good idea.

Please note the NEW 11:00AM start time.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Sept 11 8:00am

Once again, we’re heading out to the copious amount of gravel roads NE of Guelph and making our way into Hillsburgh. Its going to be a spectacular day, so make sure you sunscreen up and bring lots of water. According to RWGPS, this route is 2/3 gravel, which is a good thing, since this is a gravel ride. We’ll make a stop in Hillsburgh to refuel. Bring money for snacks and as always, tail lights are a good idea.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Sept 4th 8AM

RIDE IS ON! Its’ grey and overcast, but there is no rain according to the radar for sometime.

It’s the Labour Day long weekend, or the ‘real’ start to the year as I like to call it. And if you were planning on avoiding driving amongst the crazed masses, this gravel ride might be just the thing to keep you sane and not too far, or long, from the sanctuary of your home. All club members are welcome and the pace will be reasonable with two speed groups to choose from. Next year there might even be three!

This route has something old and something new. It has the longest uninterrupted gravel section of any route we have put together, 49km! RWGPS map surface markings are not completely accurate, BTW.

Bring money for a Butter Tart stop at the Belwood Country Market.

RIDE CANCELLED | Sunday Gravel Ride | Aug 21 8:00AM

RIDE CANCELLED: There are several nasty blobs of weather headed this way. It could go either way, but I’m not keen on getting caught in a thunderstorm.

I haven’t done any gravel rides to the north and east of town for quite some time. I was hoping to do that for this ride, but it seems as though that area has been well-represented in the gravel ride rotation as of late. Therefore, we’ll be going in much the opposite direction. Its a bit of a shorter rip, but we might be happy with that, depending on which way the weather turns. The weather for Sunday morning is saying “Chance of a thunderstorm”, which really means “Chance of awesome weather”. Cuz it could go either way. Check this page frequently for updates. I’ll post the final go/no-go at 7AM Sunday.
