Sunday June 5th long ride | 9am

RIDE IS ON. The roads might still be a bit wet, but we probably won’t get rained on. Bring front and rear lights if you have them. We’ll do a counter-clockwise loop, opposite to the medium ride (we might wave, we might not…)

Best of luck to those that are racing at the KW Classic or elsewhere!

May 31st – Tuesday B Ride – 6:30

Another beautiful day in paradise. Today it’s a tour of the north/west going through Ariss and coming back through Maryhill. The Tuesday B is about being fast and steady so we’ll look for a good pace to be set and regroup as needed along the way. After Maryhill would be a good time to step up the pace and test your fitness. I have a family commitment tonight so I’m looking for another ride leader but failing that, I have confidence that you can sort it out among yourselves!

May 31 – Tuesday A Ride – HAMMERFEST 6:30

Construction in Rockwood is pretty much done. Been told there’s 30m of gravel entering town. It means we can at last hammer down 5th Line from Oustic through Rockwood (carefully), up Guelph and 4th Line climbs finishing over the Berg. It could be epic. Take a minute to study the route.

Monday May 30th 6:30pm | MTB ride

Mountain bike group ride out at Guelph lake, led by Alex. These are running every second Monday in May, June and July. Remaining dates are: June 6th, June 20th, July 4th, and July 18th. Meet at the Riverside bandshell parking lot for a 6:30pm start. Trails are nice and dry! These are official club rides run at a decent speed (but nothing crazy), so club membership is required.

Sunday May 29: Long ride 9:00 AM with social to follow

Put away the knives, cause its a forks weekend! For this hot soupy Sunday we will head to the Forks of the credit, with a stop for food in Belfountain, (first one up the climb is buying).
The forecast shows some pretty extreme heat and the chance of thunder showers. Will update Sunday am by 8:00 at the latest if it’s cancelled due to rain.
You may note from my horrible map that the ride actually ends in Arkell, this is to allow the group to continue to Borealis for some drinks, food and pleasant socializing if so desired. So bring some money and then some extra as there’s always some clown who forgets his wallet.

Thursday, May 26th A/B rides | 6:30pm

RIDE IS ON! A straightforward run down 6th Line to Campbellville, and then back on 1st Line. Anyone new to the Thursday A/B format should review the description found here and choose their evening festivities accordingly. Basically, the ‘A-Ride’ will be fast and spicy before it likely gets faster and spicier beyond the half-way mark… dropped riders probable. The ‘B-Ride’ will seek to remain organized and intact at the advertised, average pace, regrouping as needed along the way. Both rides will be fun… just different!

Please ride safe at all times, and take particular care on the 6th Line descent. Also, watch this space for the potential of a weather cancellation… call will be made by 5:30pm at the latest.

Thursday May 19th A/B rides | 6:30pm

UPDATE: Ignore the clouds–the ride is on! The ‘A’ Group will enjoy a spirited, 32+ kph romp (late attacks likely, dropped riders have the option to wait for and join the trailing ‘B’ Group). The ‘B’s will maintain a steady/organized 28 – 32 kph average speed for a gluten and attack free ride. Some separation may occur in the Mountsberg and Col de Watson area so let’s re-group at the corner of Watson and Leslie to bring the ride home in a civilized manner.

Wednesday Ride | May 18 6:30 PM

Yet another beautiful evening for a ride! Southeastern 42 km route from the Library back to Arkel – add another 8 to SRB. Sunset is 8:41 PM – bring lights just the same. Click here for info on SRCC Group Ride Guidelines and here for info on The Social Paceline. And for those new to group riding show up at 5:55 PM for the Group Ride Orientation Clinic. We’ll work on good communication up and down the line – no shortage of sand and other road hazards out there still. Don’t forget your 2016 membership card. See you soon!

Club Time Trial #1 – Wed May 18/16

The first TT of our 4 event time trial series is this week, with first rider starting at 7:00pm!

New for 2016: Due to a road closure on 4th Line, we have moved the Time Trial course one concession west, to 6th Line East. When riding out to the course please allow yourself a few extra minutes, as the course is just over a km further west than in previous years.

Note the schedule for the other events in the series:

  • June 15
  • July 20
  • August 17

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is 16.7km long, an out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Sixth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:  TBD on May 18
Meeting Location:  Start Line – 6th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)
Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

RESULTS
The 2016 time trial series got off to a great start, with good weather greeting the riders looking to test their legs on the new course. Everyone set a Personal Best time, but top honours on the night went to Benoit Boulay and Tara MacDonald, each setting a course record!
