Sunday Medium Ride, June 19

Something a little different today. Due to a surprise Father’s Day plan, I will not be able to lead the ride, so it was decided that the two rides would start off together, then part ways on Concession Rd 6 at which point the medium ride will continue on to Brock Road and do the latter half of the long ride, which is essentially Centre Rd/Victoria all the way home. I hope this is OK, the route is a nice one, the weather good and hot. Have fun!

Sunday, June 19th long ride | 9:00 am start

Headed to Detour Cafe Dundas for Father’s Day brunch… with an Ancaster detour en route. We’ve ridden a similar route before, and it features some beauty roads on the outbound leg. (The return route is pretty fine too.)

Weather looks to be sunny and hot, so we’ll look to roll at a steady but civilized endurance pace. Plan for maximum hydration, and remember the sunscreen!

June 16th Thursday A/B ride | 6:30 pm

Route update. Watson is closed for resurfacing between Maltby and 34 (thanks for the heads up, Rudy!), so the route jogs over to Victoria.

We’ll head down Watson to Kilbride, returning up 2nd line. Lots of smooth pavement for your riding pleasure this evening: the south end of Milborough, Kilbride Rd and–this just in–northbound on 2nd newly resurfaced.

Club Time Trial #2 – Wed June 15/16 – CANCELLED

UPDATE: Tonight’s TT is cancelled due to rain. Although lightly raining at 5:30pm the radar is calling for heavier rain during the time people would be riding out and back to the course. Unfortunately I can’t reschedule to next week due to Road Nationals commitments. I encourage everyone to sign-up the the OCup TT this coming Saturday in Fergus (event info). Registration closes Thursday at midnight.

The second TT of our 4 event time trial series is this week, with first rider starting at 7:00pm!

New for 2016: Due to a road closure on 4th Line, we have moved the Time Trial course one concession west, to 6th Line East. When riding out to the course please allow yourself a few extra minutes, as the course is just over a km further west than in previous years.

Note the schedule for the other events in the series:

  • July 20
  • August 17

Time trials are a great way to test your fitness.  It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you!  No drafting is allowed.

We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.

The course is just 16.7km long, an out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Sixth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss). The new course has received lots of positive feedback.

TIPS

  • maintain a steady power output and heart rate throughout the event
  • have a smooth, regular pedalling technique
  • position yourself to be extremely aerodynamic
  • discipline yourself to operate just below your anaerobic threshold until near the end of the course.

REMINDER

  • please exercise caution during the TT, especially at the turn around, as the roads are open and vehicles can be expected
  • please remember that while waiting for your start to not obstruct traffic
  • please remember to bring your club membership card.

Course Record:
Men: Benoit Boulay               23:47.9      42.10 km/hr      May 18/16
Women: Tara MacDonald    26:55.6      37.21 km/hr      May 18/16
Meeting Location:  Start Line – 6th Line East, just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss)
Meeting Time:  Sign-in: 6:45pm, First rider start: 7:00pm

RESULTS
TBD

Wednesday Ride, June 7

What, only 13 degrees C! Too cold? No, just perfect.
Make sure you dress for it, we’ll have sunny skies, and a clear night.
Small town tour tonight, with a loop through Arkell, Eden Mills, Rockwood, and Everton (sorry Oustic, next time).
Should be back before dark, but bring lights just in case. Begins and ends at the library.

June 7 – Tuesday A – Hammerfest 6:30

A new route for this week. Fairly challenging and about as long as a Tuesday night ride can reasonably be. Lights for your ride home might be convenient. The southern turn around point comes north on Twiss Rd. Should be a good one. Aren’t they all?

CANCELLED Monday June 6th 6:30pm | MTB ride

Ride cancelled, rain. Remaining dates are: June 27th, July 4th, and July 18th (also note the date change from June 20th to the 27th). Meet at the Boathouse parking lot for a 6:30pm start. These are official club rides run at a decent speed (but nothing crazy), so club membership is required.
