Ride is on! Looks like another nice evening after a warm day with temperatures dropping later on. The route takes us south and west through Hespler. EC says gentle west wind with a ‘low’ potential for rain at 8:00. A great weather web site to see what’s coming is one for radar over Michigan. Drivers may consider parking near the University Arboretum and ride to the start at Watson Library. This will shorten your return to your car. Hope you can join us!
Heading south for a tour around Puslinch Lake, and covering some nice stretches of road that we’ve rarely (if ever) ridden… I know, it’s exciting. Note the 2k gravel section between Victoria and Gordon, and be prepared to exercise extra caution as we negotiate the intersection of Maltby and Hanlon Pkwy.
Here’s a fun route, another Bayden special. We did it last summer. Let’s do it again. Note the 1km gravel stretch in the NE corner between 7th and 6th Lines.
Since most people are either on vacation, bike racing, or off at hippy-fest, we’ll do a combined ride. The heat is going to be a factor, so we’ll do this 106k loop and keep it sensible, with a halfway stop in Erin. We can get donuts at the bakery, and we really owe The Forks Bike shop a visit! Note the tiny bit of rail trail into Erin. It’s nice and smooth (and shaded), you’ll love it.
Ride is on. If it does rain, it won’t be until at least 8, at which point you might actually like it. Who doesn’t love 4th line? It’s going to be a hot one! There is always water at the church in Arkel if you need it at the end, so don’t go thirsty.
It’s looking like a nice evening for a leisurely ride up north and west through Ariss and Mary Hill. EC says we’ll have a gentle wind at our backs for the ride home. Hope you can join us!
The third TT of our 4 event time trial series is this week, with first rider starting at 7:00pm! After being rained out last month, the weather is looking good!
New for 2016: Due to a road closure on 4th Line, we have moved the Time Trial course one concession west, to 6th Line East. When riding out to the course please allow yourself a few extra minutes, as the course is just over a km further west than in previous years.
Note the schedule for the other events in the series:
Time trials are a great way to test your fitness. It is a race against yourself and the clock. Riders start at 1 minute intervals and the challenge is to try to catch the rider ahead of you and not to be caught by the rider behind you! No drafting is allowed.
We use the same course for each of the 4 TT events allowing you to measure your training progression throughout the season.
The course is just 16.7km long, an out-and-back route on the rolling hills of Sixth Line East just north of County Road 51 (road to Ariss). The new course has received lots of positive feedback.

Bring your lights and your water bottles. It’s gonna be a hot one! Some roads we haven’t visited in a while. Add the route to your Garmin or tape it to your top tube.
Something a little different this week. We did it last year, one of Bayden’s concoctions dubbed Megaloops, two of them about 21kms each. We may split into two groups and have one chase the other while it tries to elude capture. It’s fun, you’ll see, unless you were there last year then you already know.
This route will accommodate riders wanting a medium length ride. Both rides will head out together. We can discuss a shorter route on departure. The long ride will head to the Brown Dog Cafe in St. George. Study the map for many bailout options available if you ride west to east and pick up the return leg.
Ride is on. We’ll do a clockwise loop across 20th, then down 6th, through Campbellville and back up the ‘berg.
Its gonna be a scorcher! We’ll stick to some familiar, and a few not so familiar, quiet roads with minimal climbing and some shade. Please remember to bring plenty of liquids. Weather looking like a slight chance of some rain, the call will be made by 5:30pm.
This week we’ll be on the same course (less a few KMs) as the A ride setting a blistering/no-drop pace as we hopefully pick up some fallen heroes. Our aim will be to work as a team to set a pace that will challenge the stronger riders (by taking more turns on the front) but still accommodate those that need that extra pedal stroke or two. We’ll ease up if we start overtaking the Hammerfest (those guys are so sensitive).
Here’s a longer, challenging route heading south then west. We’ll keep an eye on the weather. A couple of our club members are heading to Rio for the Olympics in August! Andrew Yorke and Jason Wilson will represent Canada and Barbados respectively in the triathlon. It’s our pleasure and honour to help these athletes prepare for their life dreams and we’re glad they’ve chosen to train with us.
RIDE CANCELLED. Alex can’t make it tonight, but feel free to still go ride mountain bikes 🙂
Mountain bike group ride out at Twin Ponds this week, led by Alex. These are running every second Monday in May, June and July. Meet at the YMCA parking lot for a 6:30pm start, heading to Twin Ponds for a rip. These are official club rides run at a decent speed (but nothing crazy), so club membership is required.
