Sunday Gravel Ride – Oct. 17, 11:00am

Weather is looking cool, and possibly rainy for this weekend. The ride start will officially be at 11:00am, to account for some warmer weather and hopefully to miss any rain that comes overnight. Dress appropriately and the worst that will happen is that you’ll have a cool story about an awesome adventure.

There will be a halfway stop at the Play-A-Latte Cafe in Kitchener (around kilometer 45). Be sure to bring cash or card and mask for that.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. However, these groups may be combined depending on turnout. Check the schedule for complete details.

Recreational Gravel: 21-24 km/h average
Intermediate Gravel: 24-26 km/h average

Check back for weather cancellation posted no later than 9:00 AM.

Advance sign-up required. Click here: Sunday Gravel Rides. You will have to create an account on Signup.com

NEW Start time: Please be ready to pedal at 11:00 AM

Start location: The Guelph Youth Music Centre – GYMC

The route: We’re going to go on an urban-ish adventure along some trails that we’ve hit before, and some brand new stuff! Should be a great time!

Sunday 08/22 Road, 8:00am

As long as the rain holds off, it should be a great (but hot) day for riding bikes! We’ll go on an adventure to explore the Escarpment south of us, before returning up some familiar roads. Bring lots of water, as it’s going to be hot!

We have two options for stops: firstly at the very classy gas station/Tim Hortons on Tremaine Road at around the 50km mark, and secondly in Kilbride around the 70km mark (popsicle stop highly recommended at this point!).

2021 Rides Are Starting!

We are back! Rides start on Tuesday, June 22nd. We will be introducing our new Tuesday All-Members Ride (“The TAM Ride”) that evening, then working through our recently updated Weekly Ride Schedule from there on out.

If you haven’t already joined the club for this season, please do so HERE.

All participants in SRCC activities should follow the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) Progressive Return to Cycling Guidelines and Return to Sport along with the latest Covid-19 safety recommendations from the Ontario Government, Ontario Public Health, local public health units and medical experts.

Please be sure to join SRCC and review our Group Ride Guidelines and Rider’s Responsibilities before your first club ride in 2021.

With the OCA’s Progressive Return to Sport guidelines, all club rides for this season will continue to need to have limited numbers, and all members will need to preregister for a ride before participating.

How to Sign Up for Group Rides

This year, SRCC will be using a central ride registration site. Members will need to signup for rides via the SRCC Signup Site.

Only those members who have signed up via the ride registration site will be able to participate in the scheduled club ride. When they’re full, they’re full! We will keep you up to date as we progress through the Steps of the Roadmap to Reopen.

Club Kit Store Open Again!

You may have been waiting for it, or it may just be a pleasant surprise, but either way we’re happy to announce a second club kit order window for the year. Starting right now until Friday August 21st! Head to https://www.sugoicustomorder.com/speedriver-Aug2020 to begin shopping.

Some further details for you, in FAQ fashion:

What if I don’t know my size?
Sugoi Custom has an excellent Fit and Sizing Guide for their custom gear. It goes over the different fit options for each model on offer (ie., RS versus Evolution fit differences), and has Sizing Charts that allow you to order the right size with confidence.

I am really on the fence about sizing. Is there a fit kit?
Unfortunately we can’t offer a fit kit at the moment. The Fit and Sizing Guide is very accurate however and worse case our members have been able to sell items that didn’t fit on our club forum.

Is this the last chance in 2020 to order SRCC club kit?
Yes! The next window will be early in 2021.

I really loved coming into Speed River Bicycle to pick up my kit and drop snacks off for the mechanics who work on my bike there. Do I have to get it shipped to my house for $15?
Unfortunately, yes. Offering $15 flat shipping to have the kit delivered to your home streamlines the entire process of getting your order to you. Having Sugoi pack and mail orders reduces any confusion with orders, and gets you your fresh new kit faster!

Why are there two different colour jerseys available?
Great question! As cycling and vulnerable road-user’s safety comes to the forefront, we worked with one of our sponsors (Even Construction) to offer a brighter, more visible yellow kit. Now you don’t have to choose between representing your favourite local cycling club and upping your safety! Please note: our “official” jersey (for racing purposes, if you choose to represent SRCC at OCA events) remains the blue jersey.

I have a question that wasn’t covered here. Who do I contact?
Please send any questions you might have regarding our 2020 kit order to our Vice President, Rich Lyle at  rich@guelphcyclingclub.ca.

Hope you are staying safe and enjoying the great weather,

Your SRCC Board

Sunday August 9th, 8am – Moderate Gravel Ride

6:30am update: Radar is showing a bit of rain toward the start of the ride, but clearing shortly after. Might be a little damp at the start, but it’ll be gorgeous after. RIDE IS ON!
Alright, let’s try this again, shall we?
The gravel rides continue! And who else would you expect to lead a gravel ride than your friendly neighbourhood gravel nut?

Start time: 8am

Start location: Guelph Youth Music Centre (not the library). Plenty of parking for those arriving by car.

We’ll be meeting separately from the ‘Leisurely’ riders. Our meeting place will be the North end of the parking lot (see image below).

We’re going to explore the Walter Bean Trail through KW, heading there via the Kissing Bridge Trailway, and heading home along some gravel roads to the west of the city. We’ll stop for refreshments at about the 51km mark. The official end point will be at Speedvale Rd and Elmira Rd N.

To join the ride, you will need to complete and submit the sign-up form, found HERE. All steps listed in the form MUST be completed.

Final call regarding the weather will be made no later than 7am on Sunday morning.
