Sunday Gravel Ride | November 6th 10:00AM

Note 10AM start due to the time change!

Not one of my more adventurous routes, but (1) we haven’t been over the 3rd line snowmobile bridge for awhile, and (2) I went to a fair amount of trouble earlier this summer to obtain permission for GCC riders to use the driveway just south of Elora that links to the Cottontail Trail and we haven’t used it yet! (Note that permission was happily granted by owners Doog and Nancy whilst attending WAY funner than expected Fork in the Road Music Festival, but that’s another story). We’ll do our usual coffee stop in Elora, so bring money for a coffee stop.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.

Sunday Gravel Ride | Oct 2nd, 11:00 AM

This is quite a Sunday for gravel riders – a lot of our regulars are at the Hardwood O-Cup CX race, the Bruce Gran Fondo, the Ganny Enduro … but for those of us staying local, it looks like a lovely, albeit cool, day and I look forward to sharing it with you! We’ll head up to Sandy Hills and Floradale, have some coffee in Elmira, and work our way home ending at Fixed Gear.

I haven’t checked out the route from the bottom end of Floradale to the KB trail, and am just trusting heat maps – my apologies if that bit doesn’t work out : )

G1 riders – you have no official ride leader, so make sure you load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

The Last Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | Sept 8th 6:00 PM

Ohhh … how can this be? The sun is setting so soon. Let’s show up in droves and rock these last official GCC weeknight rides!

But… there is still plenty of club riding. Sunday Road Rides will continue at least through October and Gravel Rides may go longer still. And don’t forget to sign up for our club’s last ‘BIG’ Event Ride of the year, the BIG100 Century Rides. Click and sign up here. And have we mentioned that #Cross is coming? More info on that coming soon.

And be sure to join the new GCC Discord ‘Server’, GCC’s new communications app for phone, web and desktop. With it you can organize, hear about and attend unofficial rides, access buy and sell, live chat during Zwift rides (when the weather takes us indoors), etc, etc, etc… Details on how to use it are in the club Newsletter you received on Tuesday Sept 6th.

No Sunday Aug 28 Road Rides

All of our GCC Sunday road ride leaders are off doing other things – how dare they put themselves first! : )

Anyway, we apologize, but there will not be any GCC road rides this Sunday, Aug 28th. If you’ve got one, grab your MTB and join the Big MTB Ride or your gravel bike and join the weekly Sunday gravel ride.

Final 2022 Women Only Ride & Social | Aug 24th 6:00PM

What happened?? This is our last GCC Women’s Ride for 2022, and we will mourn the occasion by finishing (and starting) at the Fixed Gear Canteen, where, thanks to the OCA and ON Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture, we will enjoy some post-ride pizza and refreshments. We have the most female GCC members in the history of the club, a great cause for celebration!

The Canteen is located at 5 Edinburgh Rd S. Bring some post-ride clothes if you wish, and we will lock them in somebody’s car. The route is fairly short so that we get back to the Canteen in good time. There is some gravel, but it’s nicely hard-packed. The main group will ride at an R5-ish pace; if you want to ride faster, be sure to load the route on your device, here’s how!

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | Aug 18th 6:00 PM

Hey you intermediate riders – where have you been the last couple of weeks? Come on out while you still can! And let’s head north while we still have enough daylight. Don’t be scared by the gravel indicated on the R4/R5 route – most of that is actually sweetly paved. There’s just a bit of gravel between Highway 24 and Wellington Rd 27, and it’s hardpacked and flat.

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Lights are always a good idea.

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | June 30 6:30 PM

Let’s take advantage of the long days and head somewhere we haven’t been for awhile (and no, I didn’t steal this idea from Gord’s advanced ride last week – I’d already planned these routes!). Experience brand new pavement on 8th Line, at long last! The R4 and R5 route has a short stretch of gravel after Maryhill to compensate for that delight. Bringing lights is always a good idea. Women Only Ride Canteen Edition | June 22, 6:30PM

Well, the weather has not been cooperating with our Women’s Rides, but we hope to make up for that with our first Special Edition Women Only Ride! We’ll be starting and finishing this ride at our sponsor, Fixed Gear’s, Canteen, 5 Edinburgh Rd S, so that we can enjoy some post-ride time together. Thanks to the Ministry of Heritage, Sports, Tourism and Culture’s and Ontario Cycling’s Member Club Rebuild funding, the club will foot the bill for some pizza and bevvies.

It’s going to be warm, and that patio will be beckoning, so we’ll keep this ride fairly short – see the map below. We will ride together as one group, unless we get a huge turnout and a few women are chomping at the bit (be sure to load the route if you think you might want to breakaway!). I’ll bring my car and park there, so you can lock some post-ride clothes in it if so desired. There’s a tiny bit of gravel trail on the route, but it’s nicely hard-packed.

As always, if the weather is looking iffy, check back here for possible cancellation no later than 5:30 PM.

Bringing lights is an especially good idea if you’re riding home after our gathering!

CANCELLED Women Only Ride | May 25th 6:30PM

Ride Cancelled. Where did that darn rain come from? There’s not going to be a lot, but enough to make riding unpleasant. We’ll try and schedule another women’s ride before the next two weeks pass – keep your eyes on the website!

Let’s keep the great vibes from our inaugural GCC Women Only Ride rolling! We might lose the sun by ride time, but it’ll still be warm – come out and join us before the rain comes!

This is a new ride for the 2022 season that will run on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. It is intended to foster a supportive and safe riding culture where women can help women grow in the sport of cycling. The speed and length of this ride may vary to suit those that show up. When there is a larger turnout, the ride may divide into two speed groups. The GCC is keen for the women’s ride to grow as more participants and ride leaders become available.

Women Only Ride | May 11th 6:30PM

It looks like a beautiful night for our inaugural GCC Women only ride! Being as this is our first one, let’s plan on a very social ride so that we can all get acquainted. We’ll all ride together at the speed everyone is comfortable with, and chatting is required.

This is a new ride for the 2022 season that will run on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. It is intended to foster a supportive and safe riding culture where women can help women grow in the sport of cycling. The speed and length of this ride may vary to suit those that show up. Sunday Oct 11th 11 AM Gravel Ride – All Members

11 AM Start – Don’t Forget!

This Sunday’s Gravel ride is a long-ish one. For those who missed the Floridale excursion a few weeks ago here’s another chance, yet a completely different route and direction.

We will have a ‘carry your own’ snack stop on the damn at Lake Belwood and a rest/re-fuel stop at the ‘Right Spot’ in Alma at halfway. Bring cash/card and a mask for that.

If the group splits, we will regroup throughout the ride and no one will be left behind. Try loading the course into your bike computer if you have one. RWGPS has lots of on-line help.

Start time: 11 AM – Mornings are colder now!

Start location: Guelph Youth Music Centre

Register HERE. Note: All steps in the form must be completed!

The ride is capped at 15 participants. Once the cap is reached, the registration link will automatically close.

The route:

Wednesday Sept 9th 6:00 PM Group Road Rides

Weather Update: RIDE IS ON.

This is Tuesday’s Ride postponed to Wednesday evening.

The very last evening road ride for the 2020 season!

Rides are slightly shorter this week because the sun is setting 13 minutes earlier than last week – boohoo! We should be home before dark, but bring lights.

The protocol is still the same. Three waves: Fast, Medium and Leisurely. Each wave will meet separately from the others. Please see the satellite map for your meeting spot.

The evening is strictly social pace-line format without surging or breaking apart. We’re looking for great group riding dynamics with good communications and hand signals. Be sure to see all our relevant web pages on Responsibilities, Group Ride GuidelinesSafetyPace-line and New Member information.

In the case of bad weather we are pre-scheduled for Wednesday as the rain date. Check back here for a weather cancellation announcement, it will be posted no less than one hour before the ride.
