Sunday Gravel Ride | Aug 22nd, 8:00 am

This one is called Kissing Flormira Wilson for obvious reasons. It was rained out a month ago, but the forecast is looking favourable this time.

If you’ve never been around the Floradale reservoir you’re in for a treat. We also cut through Edna and Daniel Martin’s Mennonite Maple Syrup farm with permission. Sorry, no Sunday sales. Too bad, a little syrup in your water = yum & zip)!

We will be taking a snack stop at halfway in Elmira at the ‘Local Renaissance’ cafe or the Circle K convenience store across the road. Bring cash/card and a mask for both.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

Recreational Gravel: 21-24 km/h average
Intermediate Gravel: 24-26 km/h average

Check back for weather cancellation posted no later than 7:00 AM.

Start time: please be ready to pedal at 8:00 AM

Sunday Gravel Ride | Aug 1st, 8:00 am

RIDE CANCELLED due to wet forecast, or perhaps we should just say ‘postponed’. This ride will run on Monday August 2nd starting at the same time and location.

Long weekends leave towns quieter than usual, which is an excellent time to take advantage of what’s in our own backyard. This route uses the best south Guelph has to offer, plus a lot of gravel and two-track further down. We will stop halfway at the The Danish Place, (which is open again – yay! … just not when we get there – boo!). Bring your own snacks – and a mask just in case.

The forecast is iffy at this point. Check back here for a weather cancellation posted no later than 7:00 am.

If this ride is cancelled on Sunday, it will run on Monday starting at the same time and location.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

Sunday Gravel Ride | July 25th, 8:00 am

RIDE CANCELLED   Slick mucky trails and a few other compounding factors have led to the cancellation of this ride. We’ll try this route another time. The road ride is still on.

This is a slightly longish one but has a perfectly placed snack stop halfway in Elmira. If you’ve never been around the Floradale reservoir or through Wilson Flats (backwards – this time) you’re in for a treat. We also cut through Edna and Daniel Martin’s Mennonite Maple Syrup farm. Sorry, no Sunday sales. Too bad, a little syrup in your water = yum + zip!

Sunday Gravel Ride | July 4th, 8:00 am

A chilled plate begins this multi course affair with an amuse bouche of G2G followed by some Wilson Flats. The meat and potatoes of the ride are grass fed and northern, pairing well with Carroll’s Creek’s eau de swamp. We’ll then sample a midway snack (literally) at The Right Spot in Alma. Irvine Bridge is a delicious entree before a dual sampling of both of Elora’s rail trails with just a hint of Fergusian reduction. A seldom used Side Rd 6 North is a welcome digestif for the ride south. And the Speed River Trail is the dessert course that brings us back to the GYMC in time for a hot lunch. Vegan option available. Definitely contains nuts.

There are two groups: recreational and intermediate. Both use the same route at different paces. Check the schedule for complete details.

The James Street Trail BUILD A BRIDGE Campaign

Speed River Cycling Club is partnering with the Guelph Hiking Trail Club in a fundraising campaign to BUILD A BRIDGE over the storm water crossing on the James Street Trail. SRCC members designed and engineered this bridge. Please support by contributing to the campaign. It will help make a vital accessibility improvement to this well-used, natural forest trail in Guelph. This trail is an important link for many of our members getting in and out of town on their gravel bikes or on their MTBs going out to the Arkell Spring Ground trails and back.

The James Street Trail is special! If you don’t know it, it’s a naturalized path along the south side of the Eramosa River, with a central access point one block from Gordon Street. It runs over two kilometres from there to Victoria Road on land owned by the University of Guelph. Keeping the trail accessible to a larger community is significant in preserving the land from sale to developers. It also increases access to the trails along the ridge behind the Turf Grass lands that will be developed in the foreseeable future.

But there’s a serious impediment within the first kilometer of the trail, a storm water crossing that makes it inaccessible to many people and dangerous for all users. It urgently needs a safe crossing.

The Guelph Hiking Trail Club signed a 20-year agreement with the university to manage, improve and insure the James Street Trail for all users. They have negotiated permits from the Grand River Conservation Authority. Our own SRCC members are integral to the fundraising campaign, have successfully secured grants and done the engineering and design. The bridge is a steel beam and wood deck construction with concrete abutments that will last for generations! This is a great opportunity for us to make a contribution in the heart of the city of which we can all be proud. Contribute what you can and we’ll secure a lasting legacy that’s long overdue.

We’re over half-way with the funding for the bridge — please help us get the rest of the way by April 30.

Thanks for you generous support!
