It’s looking like a great night for a gravel ride to head south west, out to Little Tract and back through the far south east – exotic! Bringing lights is always a good idea.
Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.
Club kit is on sale again for only one week. Click here for great GCC riding apparel!
Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.
Kissing Willy Almeloragus – Kissing Bridge, most of Wilson Flats, a pit stop in Alma, down to Elora, a ricochet off of Fergus and home again. Bring money for the pit stop in Alma. The route can be shortcut by 6, 8 or 14 km at the north end if you need to do that. Make sure to load the route into a bike computer or phone app and be prepared to navigate on your own. Here’s how. Regroup in Alma at ‘Right Spot Baked Goods‘.
The weather is looking mighty fine at this point 24 and no humidity, tres bien!
These are the Mid Season Routes for the TAM Ride. They are a bit longer now the sun is setting later. Routes are also a bit more challenging with a few more hills. They will remain the same for several weeks giving riders an opportunity to see how they progress in fitness week-over-week. Bringing lights is always a good idea. This is looking like the best weather day of the week. It will also be the last time we use the shorter ‘Early Season’ TAM routes before switching to the longer ‘Mid Season’ ones.

Ride is ON! It’s quite cool, dress in layers. We’ll finish at 17 degrees in the sun.
7:00 am weather update… ride is postponed until 12 noon today. This will mean some of you can’t make it, but some still will. We’re trying to make the best of the bad weather – better than cancelling. All else stays the same. Please meet at the GYMC and be ready to pedal at 12 noon if you can make it. Weather is looking far more appealing from there. Hope to see you then.
5:30 am weather update… radar is looking promising, fingers crossed… final call at 7.
10:00 pm the night before: Still not completely clear, weather wise, one way or the other… we’ll have a final call at 7 am Sunday morning as to how this ride will proceed or not. Sleep well, and remember, your bike dreams of being ridden when it’s not!
6:00 pm Saturday afternoon, the prediction is rain for Sunday morning, but the radar indicates it might miss us. The forecast for the weekend has been less than accurate so far. If it is just a matter of waiting out the rain an hour or two, the start time may be adjusted rather than cancelling altogether. Stay tuned, we will keep updating this post as the start time grows nearer.
This route has butter tarts in it, plus a lot of gravel, but not in the same bite! We’ll be stopping at the Belwood Country Market for some of the best butter tarts we’ve ever had!
Perhaps you have noticed by now that we are steadily creeping up our gravel distances each week (80 km for this Sunday) in preparation for the 90 km BGR on June 5th. Not to worry about the length here, look at the elevation profile, you will practically be coasting all the way home!
Extra challenge: Load the route into your Bike Computer – details can be found here. And turn off ‘Route Recalculation’ in the ‘Navigation’ settings of your bike computer.
Dress for the conditions – check out our new weather forecast page. A tail light is never a bad idea either. Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined. We’re looking forward to having you along!
The weather forecast has completely turned around, it’s looking very pleasant for the ride. A start of 17 degrees and a finish of 24 with very little wind. We should be home in time for lunch!
Wilson Flats is in the mix and so is a jaunt through Elora Gorge Park. Fear not, we won’t be bushwhacking the little trails in there this time! The route has a full coffee stop at the Lost and Found Cafe in Elora. Bring money and a mask for that.
Sunscreen will also be in order. Dress for the conditions – check out our new weather forecast page. A tail light is never a bad idea either. Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.
It’s a gravel ride for Mother’s Day! Oh yeah, you can work this in!
Mums, you owe it to yourself, this is your day, you know there is nothing more you would rather be doing than riding your bike! Fathers, give her the space she deserves, let her sleep in, and leave her alone at least until noon-ish by riding your bike and going wherever it is that you and your friends go. Children, your mum loves you and knows that when your happy she’s happy! Show her the joy you have had in the morning by spending the warmer, better part of the day with her in the afternoon. Do it for her. Spend time with your mother today, right after you get back from the prerequisite mental preparation of riding your bike!
By the way, what is the difference between justification and rationalization?
This route is an early season fave. It has a bit of everything and it’s not too long.
We will stop at the Danish Place to sit on their picnic tables, but they are not scheduled to be open by the time we get there, so bring your own mid ride food. Dress for the conditions – check out our new weather forecast page. Forecast so far is coolish but sunny. A tail light is never a bad idea either. Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.
It’s looking like a nice evening for a ride… finally!
These Wednesday night gravel rides are new this year. Route distances are selected to get us all home before sunset. Bringing lights is always a good idea. Fortune favours the prepared – Les Graviers.

The weather forecast is now looking better for this ride, but still less than perfect. Check back here for weather cancellation posted no less than one hour before the ride begins.
Please note the 6 PM start. These are slightly shortish routes as sunset is still only 8:10 pm. Bringing lights is always a good idea. Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.
The three Intermediate Speed Groups on this ride are:
RIDE is ON! Good morning campers, that’s not snow out there, that’s just sugar coating! It’s a bit cool right now and will be at the ride’s start, but it’s sunny and will only be getting warmer (more sugar coating); no more precip and wind is low. Dress appropriately. P2A is next week, practice, practice practice!
In celebration of the rare occurrence that this ride also falls on Easter Sunday (no ‘Christ on a bike’ jokes please – British phrase), Gabhan Chalmers has hidden chocolate Easter eggs across the countryside for us to find as he leads the ride. However, in a strange turn of events, he has not yet returned from his eggy expedition. So, if you happen to see a pink cherub in a bunny suit riding aimlessly, please tell him his wife is growing concerned about him and is also wondering where he is. In further honour, the route will utilize part of the Cotton Tail Trail (that part is actually true!). Anyone wearing bunny ears wins a small water bottle, maybe two (also true!)!
There is a planned stop in Elora at the Lost and Found Cafe, bring cash and a mask for that. Dress for the conditions – check out our new weather forecast page. A tail light is never a bad idea either.
The 2022 GCC membership sign up has been open for a wee bit. The clocks have moved ahead. It’s time we all started thinking of warmer days. If you haven’t signed up for the club already, tick, tock, now is the time! Click here for the best bang for your athletic buck you may ever know. Hope to see you soon!
The SRCC Board and members made substantial commitments to make this community-led project a reality. Now that it’s complete, SRCC members are invited to attend the official opening and naming of the bridge on Saturday November 20th at 1 PM.
The board donated $2500 in the club’s name helping kick-off the project’s fundraising and the members collectively donated an additional and impressive $8275. A special thanks to all who donated!
Many club members donated their time and expertise as well. Will Teron (Tacoma Engineers) did the initial engineering on the project. Meg Thorburn wrote many of the grant applications garnering the lion’s share of funding. And Lorenz Calcagno managed the project and was even seen to have tools in his hands on occasion.
This bridge had been crying to be built for decades. An earlier construction by a few visionary mountain bikers lasted several years, but was eventually undone. A more permanent solution was needed – one that would facilitate further improvements down the trail. SRCC was critical in making that happen. We hope it will be enjoyed and appreciated by all users for many years to come.
Come out on Saturday November 20th at 1 PM and be part of the opening ceremony and celebrate in a substantial gain for the community.
The weather is predicted to be around 11 degrees and partially sunny. The route will be mostly gravel roads with a couple of easy two-track ‘connectors’ (hopefully no mud).
Unfortunately there is no cafe or convenience store near halfway on this route. Please bring food, enough drink and dress for the conditions.
Check back here for weather cancellation posted no later than 8:00 AM.
RIDE CANCELLED. We’ll try again next week and hope for better conditions.
It’s going to be a cold, wet, mucky and windy all Hallows Eve, Hallowe’en or Halloween (your spelling preference) fall colour ride. Weather is predicted to be chilly, windy and wet – around 8 degrees at the start. Brrr…. costumes are mandatory (ok, maybe not)!
Check back here for weather cancellation posted no later than 8:00 AM.
Lot’s of long gravel roads in this one. Unfortunately there is no cafe or convenience store near halfway on this route. Bring food, enough drink and dress warmly – and no whining! Lol!!

Weather prediction is warm. Should be around 17 degrees at 9 am. This ride is a wee bit shorter to allow for the long weekend commitments people need to get back for. We should easily be back by noon.
