BIG100 Century Rides 2022 | Sunday September 18th

BIG100 – Imperial & Metric Century Rides!

The GCC road ride of the year with local beer and gourmet wood oven pizza to top it off!

It’s time to see how your fitness has progressed throughout the season. Or you can just come along for another Sunday ride, you decide what this will be for you.

There are two century distances to choose from: 160km (100 miles) or 100 kilometres. Each with three speed groups.

The two routes have been carefully scouted and prepared by seasoned GCC road master John Lyall. He assures us there are no hills – we don’t believe him (we’ve seen the route, oh…there are plenty o’hills!). There will be rest stations along the way and we will be riding some pretty cool and not often travelled roads – that, we believe!

The Details:

  • The rides start and end at Fixed Gear Brewing, with a free beer at the end for participants. Water & soft drinks are also available
  • Rain or shine (unless weather warning issued by EC)
  • Free parking, gear storage on site, arrive early to stow some gear – come early for this.
  • Three pace groups per distance (see above)
  • Staggered start to finish at a similar time
  • There are rest stops along the way
  • The BIG100 is open to GCC Club Members only
  • Post ride food provided by our incredible sponsor Fixed Gear Brewing
  • Door Prizes from Speed River Bicycle and Paramount Sports.
  • Bring cash or card for additional post ride bevies
  • Pace group adjustments may occur subject to popularity
  • Participants must pre-register to allow for food prep

The Routes: Both distances share the first rest stop at 47.5 km where we will have some great snacks and water waiting. There will be some fresh baking provided by club member Shannon Brown who knows a thing or two about long rides and crazy climbs (she just rode 2K km and 20K of climbing with panniers in the Alps!). The 160K has a second paid rest stop in Kilbride at 107 km, bring some cash for that.

The 100 Mile (160 km) Imperial Century:

The 100K Metric Century Route: This route has been slightly adjusted due to a detour.

Don’t be too sad, there are many Sunday rides still to come and #Cross is coming!

Sunday GCC Tour de Guelph Ride | June 26th 8:00AM

We are supporting the Tour de Guelph’s Hospital Fundraiser by signing up, paying our money (fund raise and donate more if you can) and riding our bikes. There will be no other club rides this day.

The TdG has a number of routes of different lengths to choose from. Some are good for getting your family and friends out on their bikes.

However, we have put together a 100 km route that is more suitable for club riders – see below.

There will be rest stops (we won’t stop at them all, there are too many). Because we will be utilizing the TdG rest stops, you must register with the Tour de Guelph to join this ride and receive those benefits. Visit GCC’s Tour de Guelph page on how to sign up. And have you heard? Tail lights are a good idea.

Be sure to note that we are starting our GCC 100km ride at 8:00 am and not 7:30 am as is the general public TdG 100 km. But arrive early enough to get your arm band from registration.

Weather is a bit iffy at this point. Most of us will sign up and support the event, but may decide not to ride in the rain. We’ll keep on eye on that.

Speeds will be variable by whatever groups form.

GCC members only. To become a member join HERE

Advance sign-up required. Register with Tour de Guelph by clicking HERE

Start Time: please be ready to pedal at 8:00 AM – Get your Arm Bands at 7:45 in the Athletic Centre

Start Location: Athletic Centre University of Guelph

Start is in front of the University of Guelph’s W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre
