CANCELLED Sunday Longer Faster Road Ride | May 1st, 2022. 11:00 AM

Ride Cancelled. Weather is looking too wet for an enjoyable ride. Alright, here’s the story and I’m gonna tell ya. We’re heading upcountry but there’ll be no fighting degens or hockey players. Instead, we’re gonna do a steady 29-31 km/hr pace ride and see some of the finest agricultural scenery and agricultural roads in Wellington County. Fortunately, we won’t have to listen to any agricultural music. Some of these roads are super-quiet and others, not so much but if we need to go single file, we’ll tell ya. We can stop in Grand Valley for a coffee or we can boot down to Belwood where they have the second best tarts around (first would be Katie’s). Anyhoo, bring money for a coffee stop and tail lights are a good idea. Check here for any weather update an hour before we meet.

Speed will be between 29-31 kph average

GCC members only. To become a member join HERE

Advance sign-up required. Reserve your spot by clicking HERE

Start Time: please be ready to pedal at 11:00 AM

Start Location: East End Library at Starwood and Watson

Check here for weather cancellation posted no less than one hour before the ride begins

Route: The Longer Faster Sunday Ride will be following the map below

Thursday Advanced Road rides, April 28th at 6:00 PM

The weather forecast is looking good so keep your fingers crossed but if anything changes check here before you depart. This ride will take us up north of Guelph on mostly quiet roads. Unlike most of our rides there is a turnaround point midway through the ride. The R2 and R3 groups can turn around earlier if daylight is going to be an issue. The map shows that some of the route is gravel but this is fake news – It’s all paved. Additionally, the section on 124 can be a bit busy so we’ll go single file there. The official ride ending will be at the corner of conservation road and Victoria. Bringing lights is always a good idea. Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.

The three Intermediate Speed Groups on this ride are:

Hammerfest   R1       35-40 kph average plus some surges

Very Fast         R2       32-35 kph average

Fast                 R3       30-32 kph average

GCC members only. To become a member join HERE

Advance sign-up required. Reserve your spot by clicking HERE

Start Time: please be ready to pedal at 6:00 PM

Start Location: East End Library at Starwood and Watson

Check here for weather cancellation posted no less than one hour before the ride begins

Route: All three of the speed Groups will follow this map:

Sunday October 17th Road Ride 11 AM at the Library.

Gonna try this route again but the weather isn’t looking too promising. Final decision will be made at 10 AM on Sunday. This will be a fairly leisurely roll through the countryside North of Belwood up to Grand Valley. No Huge hills but it could be windy. We can make a food / water / break stop at Grand Valley or wait for the butter tarts in Belwood.

As usual, sign up for the ride here

Sunday September 19th Combined Gravel Ride 9 AM

This ride continues on the theme started last week – farms, wind turbines and…. more farms! Anyway, we’ll head up Jones Baseline as far as we can and then do a tour of some more roads north of Belwood. Another stop for butter tarts followed by a slightly circuitous way home – and no bike paths.

Please note that the ride starts at 9:00 at the Youth Music Center

As usual, sign up here

Sunday September 12 combined Gravel ride 8:00 AM

Huh, This is tricky but I think I’ll call it and say the ride is ON. We might have light rain so maybe bring a rain jacket.

UPDATE: Because the weather forecast iffy, the final call will be made at 7AM on Sunday. Here is a scenic route to explore the countryside around Belwood Reservoir. Note that to get out of town on this route we’ll be on 124 for a short section but it has a wide gravel shoulder there. Mandatory butter tart stop in Belwood.

As usual, mandatory signup is required HERE

Start time is still 8:00 AM. Dress appropriately!

Start location is the Youf Music Center.

Sunday August 1st Road Ride 8:00 AM

Ride cancelled due to weather and low numbers. See y’all next week! This ride is going to take us north to Grand Valley and surrounding countryside. Weather forecast looks middling at best so the final call will be at 7:00 AM on Sunday. As usual, there is the signup routine and remember that we meet at the Guelph Public Library in the east end of the city.

Sunday Gravel Ride | July 11th, 8:00 am – Guelph Youth Music Center

<—- I think James did jinx it… Weather radar looks like rain this morning so ride is cancelled. This weekend’s intermediate ride will be a tour of the landscape north of Belwood lake. Quiet roads, lots of farms and tons of gravel – what more could one want? We’ll have a rest stop at the store in Belwood where we can chow down on butter tarts and find out the dates for the next fishing derby.

Unfortunately there will not be a beginners ride this weekend due to ride leader scheduling. However, they will be back next weekend!

Advance sign-up required. Click here: Sunday Gravel Rides. You will have to create an account on Signup.com

Start time: please be ready to pedal at 8:00 AM

Start location: The Guelph Youth Music Centre – GYMC

Sunday June 27 road ride – 8:00 AM at Library

Weather looks good, Ride is ON! Well well well, here we are organizing club rides finally! This is going to be a medium-paced jaunt north of the city towards Grand Valley. We can stop for food and water there and then cruise downhill all the way home where the official ride will end at Victoria and Conservation Road. The ride schedule indicates that we should keep this one between 29-31 kilometers per hour.

As usual, you’ll need to sign up for this ride using signup.com. The direct link for this ride is here

Just a reminder that we’re meeting at the LIBRARY at 8:00 AM. The weather forecast is not looking great at the moment but the final call will be made by 7:00AM on Sunday.

First SRCC Zwift ride

The first indoor Zwift ride of 2021 is happening on Sunday Feb 14th at 9:00 AM. A 90 minute dash around Watopia at your own pace since the elastic band function will be used. The Discord Link is at… https://discord.gg/rc2TwpNE

I have invited all those I can but if anybody else wants to join follow me (Gord Drewitt) on Zwift and I’ll send the invite.

The main purpose of this ride is for some friendly socializing and possibly some low-level trash-talking as required. Need to discuss your new bike purchase? Sure! All the races you were gonna crush this spring? Bring it on!

Hope to see you all there!

Winter 2021 Indoor Rides

Indoor Riding Season is here! Well, actually, it’s been here for a while. but with the latest lockdown, it’s REALLY here. We now have a huge choice of hardware, software, workout types, group rides and all sorts of other stuff to make indoor riding almost fun. So, to promote some social pre-season riding we are hoping to set up some SRCC indoor rides.

Here’s the catch… There is already a TON of available group rides, workouts, races, challenges and what have you. I would like to hear what people are missing and what type of weekly offerings people would like to attend that they currently are missing. Some possible proposals are a Friday afternoon easy meetup ride in Zwift with the “elastic band” function enabled. This would allow people to socialize and work as hard as they want. Another possibility is a Sunday longer medium-intensity ride with a degree of socialization and chit-chat.

If you have any suggestions or wants, feel free to reply to this post or email me at g.b.drewitt@gmail.com. Spring is coming and outdoor riding is just around the corner!

Sunday October 11th Road Ride – 11 AM at the Library

So this will be a fairly simple road ride to the North around Belwood. Weather forecast is looking decent and the winds are not supposed to be too bad (there’s a reason why all those wind turbines are up around those parts…) Anyway, we’ll have the chance to stop in Fergus, Grand Valley, or Belwood if people want.

Sign up sheet is here, you know the drill

Sunday September 20, 2020 Road Ride – 9:00 AM.

A Sunday ride South and East of Guelph. Weather forecast looks good right now but it might be chilly. As usual meet at the East end libray at Watson and Starwood and we’ll keep the pace comfortable for everyone and figure out rest stops as required.

To join the ride, you need to fill in the appropriate sign-up form by clicking on the following link:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScsQu4L3_CBAPzSUkbcoU7RoiecobZ3V10ntaSL6oJfYJRlJQ/viewform?usp=sf_link

And the ride with GPS course is… kindly provided by Meg! Thanks Meg.

Sunday August 2nd 8am medium road ride 95 km

Aw Boo. Cancelling this ride too due to the rain. Alright – here it is finally. A simple meander going north and south of the city. Nothing too innovative but these are mostly nice quiet roads. If anybody needs a food stop we can visit the gas station at 15th and Guelph line (i’d avoid the sushi though…)

Anybody planning on doing this ride needs to fill out the forms here . We’re meeting at the east end library at 8 AM. We’re going to aim for a pace of around 30 to 32 km/hr and make sure that it stays civilized throughout the ride.

Lastly, any weather related cancellation will be posted here the morning of the ride

Sunday July 26 Medium Road ride 8 A.M. from east end Guelph Public Library

Holy smokes – I’m first to post a ride for 2020! Well, here goes – hopefully everything works with the links and forms and documents and ppe and all the other stuff we need to do. Anyway, here it is. Road ride going north of Belwood lake. It’ll be about 85 kilometers long and there are a few short sections of very smooth gravel so leave your time trial bike at home.

To join this ride, you need to fill in the sign-up form and the link is HERE

You need to follow all the instructions in that link to join the ride and we are capped at 12 riders total – the form will disappear once we have a full roster.

So here’s the route. There may be some very small modifications as conditions dictate

Sunday October 6th, 11:00 am B/C Ride

Sorry folks, I have to cancel this ride since I can’t make it and there’s nobody available to cover for me. Also, the weather forcast is middling at best. However, if you want to meet up and do an informal DIY ride, feel free. Note that with the cool weather ride start times are now 11 AM/
