Wednesday Gravel Ride | July 5th 6:30pm

Summer is here and so is “Feels Like 34C” on my weather app – hooray!(?) Here’s a simple northbound gravgrav ride for us to enjoy. There are a couple of notes on the route:

  1. We may take Woodlawn’s MUP to Silvercreek instead of the Edinburgh trail extension, as I’m not 100% sure if that’s A-OK or not.
  2. If your group has time at the end of the ride and would like to extend it by scooting through an extra GORBA trail or two, please feel free!

Load the route on your bike computer if you have one, here’s how.

Disclaimer: Depending on rider turn out, some Speed Groups may have to be combined.

The Speed Groups on this ride are:

CANCELLED: Sunday Gravel Ride | June 11 8:00AM

7:30AM: RIDE IS CANCELLED. While it might not rain, it’s probably going to rain. You’re welcome to ride on your own – I’d bring the rain jacket, if you do.

With the (really fun!) BGR under our belt-less bibs, let’s tackle another longer gravel ride this Sunday. The air quality will hopefully be improving a change in wind direction, so it’s looking like a lovely day for a ride. I will keep an eye on the weather and update by Sunday morning at 7:30am.

Groups can choose if they would like to jut north into Belwood at km 61 for a refresher, or continue on without a stop – if you’ve ridden with me, you know my preference is the latter 🙂

Sunday, August 15th Road Ride – 8am Start

It’s looking like a great day to stretch our legs and enjoy some of the classics: River Road between Fergus and Elora, Middlebrook down to the West Montrose Covered Bridge, and Crowsfoot. We’ll end with the almost Europe-feeling Maryhill and Chilligo roads.

Bring snacks; we can make a brief pit stop to fill up our bottles, but this ride leader doesn’t prefer to take long coffee stops 🙂

Please sign-up for this ride HERE

This ride is open to SRCC club members only. If you aren’t already a member, you can sign up for the club at speedrivercyclingclub.org/join

The ride departs from the East Branch Public Library at Starwood and Watson at 8am. See the route below, and load it to your GPS!

Tuesday All-Members Ride, August 10th, 6:30pm

New route alert! A pleasant detour at the southernmost point on the ride and a new finish along Arkell Rd distinguish this route from the last. Riding south down Watson tends to be easier than riding north on it, too 🙂

Tuesday is the night of the week that all members can find a speed group they enjoy riding with! The route will remain the same for several weeks in a row, giving an opportunity for riders to see how they progress in fitness week-over-week. Please note: some groups may be combined based on sign-up numbers and available ride leaders.

The TAM ride will be departing from Calvary Baptist Church, 454 Arkell Rd, at 6:30pm. Please arrive a few minutes early and ensure you are in the group area that you signed up for – see the map below.

CANCELLED – Sunday, July 11th Road Ride: 8am Start

Did I jinx it by calling it the “perfect day” in my post? Maybe. It doesn’t look like it will rain all day, but there’s a good chance that it will when we would be on the ride. Sit tight, watch le Tour, and get out there later in the day if you can.

Sunday is looking like the perfect day to get on your road bike! If you’re new to riding east of town, this ~110k route is for you. We’ll start through Limehouse, descend Olde Base Line next to the Cheltenham Badlands, go up the legendary Forks of the Credit climb, and poke our heads into Erin from a donut (or fritter) from the legendary Holtom’s bakery. My favourite!

The ride starts at 8am from the Library’s East Branch at Watson and Starwood. Bring enough food of your own to make it ~75km at a pace averaging around 30km/h until we get our bakery stop.

Sign up for Sunday’s road ride here: https://signup.com/go/nAudrjE

This ride is open to SRCC members only. If you have not signed up to be a club member, you can do so HERE.

Tuesday June 22nd: TAM Ride, 6:30pm

This year’s club rides begin with the Tuesday All-Members Ride, aka “The TAM Ride”. Tuesday is the night of the week that all members can find a speed group they enjoy riding with! The route will remain the same for several weeks in a row, giving an opportunity for riders to see how they progress in fitness week-over-week.

With that in mind, we’ve chosen a very “classic” SRCC first route. Many Tales of the Big Ring have included “the Watsonberg” – the hill just north of County Road 34, and the “Col du Watson”, the climb at the base of Watson Rd off of Centre Rd. In the future these routes may include loops, go in different directions, etc, but they will always remain the same for roughly 4-5 weeks in a row.

This ride requires sign-up in advance. Please do so here: TAM RIDE JUNE 22ND SIGNUP Sign-up does require you to create an account on Signup.com.

Sunday September 6th, 8am Road Ride – 101k

This Sunday looks absolutely perfect for a long ride: little (forecasted) wind, sunny, nice and warm given that it’s September already!? When did that happen?

Let’s hope that the forecast comes true, and head out on some classic roads: the ride north of the Grand –featuring some fresh pavement on Middlebrook– is full of roads that SRCC riders have come to love. We’ll head north, then southeast along the river, and end with the West Montrose bridge and a nice, flat finish down Crowsfoot to bring it home. Perfect. See you there!

Start time: 8 AM

Start location: The Guelph East End Public Library. Plenty of parking for those arriving by car.

Check back here for weather cancellation announcement, it will be posted no less than one hour before the ride.

To join the ride, you will need to complete and submit the sign-up form, found HERE. All steps listed in the form MUST be completed.

Wednesday Social Ride: A,B, and C, August 14th @ 6:30pm

Each week the route gets a little shorter… *wipes away tear from cheek*

This week will start (as per usual) from the East Branch of the Public Library (refer to the map below) at 6:30pm sharp.

It’s always a great idea to ride with lights, but especially so this time of year! By this time of the season we have ironed out the wrinkles: communication on rides has been fantastic as of late, and let’s plan to keep it that way.

Please remember the Wednesday group ride pace guidelines:
A: 28-30km/h
B: 26-28km/h
C: 24-26km/h
