The forecast for Thursday evening, is mainly sunny with the temperature in the high teens, and the wind out of the North. So we’ll head out to see how the corn is growing “up north”, getting to enjoy the wind on the way home, along with some Canadian pavés. The ride will officially end at corner of Conservation and Victoria. While the sunset isn’t until 9:00pm, bringing lights is always a good idea.

Time to shake things up a bit and head out to the northeast. Fingers-crossed we will get a tail wind on the way home. Bringing lights is always a good idea.

For our first Thursday ride I’ve selected a couple trusty routes that aren’t too long. We will head out to the southeast, going counter clockwise coming back via Eden Mills. Hopefully the weather will cooperate but its a bit of wet forecast, so don’t forget to check back here in case of a cancellation. Bringing lights is always a good idea.

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | Aug 31st 6:00PM

The shadows grow long; The corn is sweet and the smell of apples is strong; Alas this is our last one.

This is the last official Thursday night ride (where has the summer gone…) and since I got lucky with a nice route to the southwest earlier this month – I’m going to use it again. To keep us off busier roads there is a short gravel section for the R6 & 7 route.

Bringing lights is a good idea, especially since sunset will be at 7:58pm 🙁

The is still one more TAM (Tuesday) ride followed by a social next week, and the Sunday rides continue into the autumn.

Tuesday All Members Ride | Aug 8th 6:30PM

Welcome to the Late Season Routes for the TAM Ride! See maps below for changes.

Alas, the corn is high and the sun is setting earlier. These new routes may seem similar to the early season routes, but the bottom loop is reversed – now with more hills, you’re stronger than you were in May! They will remain the same to the end of the season giving riders an opportunity to see how they progress in fitness week-over-week. Bringing lights is always a good idea.

Don’t forget – Social at the Fixed Gear Canteen tonight (5 Edinburgh Rd S)

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | August 3rd 6:30PM

Lets go explore the roads to the southwest of town – a mostly flat route, with only two climbs of note. Going out down Watson, then west along Maltby. Take care as we cross the Hanlon (Hwy 6). To keep us off the busy roads, for the R6/7 groups there is 2km stretch of gravel along part of 10th Sideroad. Coming back into town on Laird and Clair Road.

There was a problem with the R6 signup page, don’t worry we’ll figure it out the groups in the parking lot.

The days are already getting notably shorter, so bringing lights is always a good idea.

CANCELLED Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | July 6th 6:30PM

Cancelling ride, there are thunderstorms popping up in the area, and its not safe to get caught out in one. There is also an intense line heading our way for later in the evening too. Take care if you decide to venture out, or rest up – the weather for the next four days is looking awesome (I’m not having much luck with planning rides north and rain…).

Going to try a slightly different route up to the northwest. We will still see if anyone has any loose nuts by Ponsonby Ball Diamonds, but then come down 6th Line and take a little different route into Maryhill. There is a short gravel section before we cross Hwy 7, but the other week it was smoother than some of the paved roads. Its going be hot and humid, so hydrate. Also they are forecasting thunderstorms, so check back here in case we need to cancel.

Construction Notice: There is construction just south of the library on Watson. Watson Pky North is closed between York and Starwood (see https://guelph.ca/2023/06/watson-parkway-north-closure/).

We have have lots of daylight, but it is at the top end of our distance, so bringing lights is always a good idea.

CANCELLED: Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | June 15 6:30PM

The official club ride is cancelled.

It was looking good there for a little bit the is afternoon. But now there is sporadic rain in the area, and a line coming ashore from Lake Huron that the weather radar is showing to move through the area during ride time. May not be a drenching rain, but with the temperature in the low teens -likely not very comfortable. Take care if you do decide to venture out.

Thought a little jaunt to the northwest through Ariss and Maryhill would be a nice change of scenery. Hopefully the smoke, rain and thunder gods will all smile on us, but it is looking dicey at the moment. Final call will be posted by 5:30pm on Thursday.

Bringing lights is always a good idea.

Thursday Intermediate Road Ride | September 1st, 2022 6:00pm

Ack! its September already and the second last Thursday night ride. Let’s head north, get to experience the other end of Watson and admire the tall rows of corn. With the days getting shorter, not too long of a route and plenty of options to cut short, if needed.

Note: I’ve updated the route on Thursday morning, make sure you have the one that goes counter-clockwise.

Bringing lights is a good idea – sunset is now 7:56pm.

** The radar is looking clear and the sky in brightening up… the ride is on! **

It’s already August… where does the time fly? Tonight going we’re going to do a loop through Crief and Little Lake, hoping to catch a bit a tailwind home.

Speaking of flying – if you’ve been riding R4 and have been feeling inspired to surge away from the group – check out R3, and meet some new friends (see the post for the Thursday Advanced Ride to sign-up)! At this point in the season, we aim to keep paces towards the middle of the the posted ride speed to allow all riders to have the opportunity to progress more smoothly into faster rides. Interested in trying a faster group but not sure if you’re ready? Feel free to talk with a Ride Leader to learn more about the different ride groups offered!
